Series 3 Complete rewire

Afternoon all, just a quick question. After ripping every last wire out of my old girl I have discovered too many breaks and kinks to be comfortable replacing it. Where would everyone advise getting a full wiring loom/harness for my 1983 109"?

That would be my first port of call if I needed a replacement wiring harness. It is possible to make your own from scratch but I cannot fault the harnesses I have had from autoparks in the past, and saves a lot of time. Making your own that will work it not that difficult, making it to a good standard with all of the correct connectors is very time consuming.

Are you going for a restoration or usability? If its not a restoration then I would make the loom yourself and add some "modern" features. You can also make the runs more accesible (ie not thorugh the rear chassis) and add some relays and fuses.

Even if you get a ready made harness I would still run it along the top of the chassis rather than through it. I have done this on both my series III and my 110.

I'm going to be making my own for the 109. As above, a proper fusebox with protection for all circuits and relays for high-current loads is high on the list of priorities. I think the best way is to almost disregard the original diagram and wire it from scratch. Once you consider the individual systems a series isn't particularly complex.

Just rewired my series 2 fitted with a 2.5 petrol and alternator. Did not want to fit off the shelf loom as I would be making many alterations so I bought a new loom off ebay that the seller did not know what model it was off , this I completely stripped out so I could use the proper coloured wires but I fitted 2 fuse boxes and relays for headlights. The bulkhead to rear loom was made using 7 core towing cable. Very easy to do if you take your time and have good quality crimping pliers,and plenty of connectors. Wrap loom only when you have finished running all wires and tested everything. Unwrapping a length of new loom to add another wire is a real bind, as I found out the hard way.
