I've been to look at a P38, there were a few very minor faults which would be sorted out before buying. However it has a coil conversion, it is the worst handling p38 I have ever been in. How easy is it to change back? It still has the air dryer in situ as well as other parts of the EAS. I can do the work my self as i'm handy with a spanner.
Has anyone done this before?
Thanks

Just depends on what is still there. The air drier is the least of your worries. But if you get new bags and good second hand bits you should be able to get it up and running for not a lot of money. Certainly less than a coil spring convertion costs.

The valve bock was there, but no lights on the height indicator. The garage owner was going to find out what was left on the car from the EAS. The springs were located where the air bags should have been.

Check if the EAS ECU is there (under the passenger seat and look in the EAS box under the bonnet to see if the compressor is there. If all those bits are there, it has probably just been electrically disabled. Check fuses and relays.

The switch lights are disabled by a bridging device behind the switch (either that or it's been replaced with one which has had its innards removed).

Just bear in mind that there's hundreds of P38s for sale up and down the country. If in any doubt about anything, walk away. There'll be others.

Yeah but chance of a snip with this one. None standard, drives like a pig because of coils. So it will be a lot cheaper than a proper P38.

Hi, the coil kit that was fitted would have had an electrical bypass lead fitted to the ECU to disable the EAS system and the error messages on the dash, if you un plug this lead (if fitted) then the EAS computer should be re-activated. As the other posters have said then you need to see what is missing, if the airlines are all still there then the other parts are not too much hassle, regards, Andy

Thats right there is a bypass fitted to the BECM, the controls on the dash will just have the plugs pulled, I fitted coils to mine and it drives great-nice and stable, you sure the springs and shocks are just not worn out and need replaced, nothing lasts for ever especially if its br*tpart, if the coils are yellow the best place for them is at the bottom of a very deep skip.

Blue, sounds like bearmach springs, funny as they seam to have a pretty good rep, what like is the shocks. Mine has the black springs and as I said rides pretty good but does sit a little high, i would like to change my springs to drop it 2" but am so happy with the handling I would never change back to EAS. Also thinking about Koni adjustable or Monroe gas shocks on mine, am trawling the different forums for posts. Anyway if you change back I wish you the best but think I would cost it plus the purchase price then look around to see whats on the market, might save you a lot of work and if your willing to travel theres lots to choose from. If you do get it check the air tank cos when I took mine of it was not in good condition.

You need to look on auto trader at that price with a big V8 the market is your oyster. Also it should not drive like a dog because it has coils, like Derek I would be wary. Hey Derek you offshore in Brazil at the moment, I'm offshore in the sunny north sea.

Ohh lucky you in the luverly warm North Sea. Here I am freezing my nuts off in 25 - 30 degs sunshine with the tan topping up nicely.:D:D Back to reality next trip though with drydock in bloody Newcastle for 6 to 8 weeks:(:( Can't win em all. Had 12 months out here so not complaining. And the scenery is certainly better than Aberdeen or Peterhead:rolleyes::rolleyes: Are you on boats or rigs?

Whats wrong with Aberdeen or Peterhead other than they are cold, misrable and damp places. On thr Rigs now, used to be Engineer with Tidewater on the boats but that was about 14 years ago, remember had an exciting month in drydock in Hull in the middle of winter so know what your talking about, Anyway its a nice balmy 2 degrees here at the moment. Better not tie up the thread or will **** someone of but welcome back when you arrive ha ha.
Cheers
