Hi

Not posted on here for some time now, but have a few problems, i need to take the engine out of my 98' Disco 300 TDI as the clutch is knackered, thought it might have been just the slave cylinder as it was partially disengaging the clutch (won't engage gears unless engine is not running, but drags when engine is running), but replaced the slave & master cylinder & the problem still remains.

I've been qouted £750 from one place & £450 from another, one place told me the clutch was £100 alone & arm was £30, when i checked paddocks it was half what i was told, so decided i would have a go myself, & have an engine hoist to show for me money in case i need the engine out again at any time.

The thing i wanted advice on was do you take the engine & box ect. out in one, or separate the engine from the box & just remove, i have a whole load of other jobs to do when the engine is out, cambelt, water pump, crank seals front & back, rocker cover gasket.

also what electrics, pipes & other bits need removing before the engine is lifted out, i would be grateful for any tips, as i have never done one before

Thanks

As mine had aircon,I took the transmission off the engine insitu-use the hoist to support the transmission thru the tunnel-make sure you fit heavy duty fork on reassembly(one with strap welded on back). Not a bad job ,just take your time.
Cambelt is easy enough with engine in car.

Agree.its not an engine out job at all.drop box out the bottom.

if i left the engine in, would the rear crank seal be accessible, & how difficult would it be to fit the rear one while the engine was in situe?
