hi my freelander 1 td4 2002 is sometimes hard to put into gear
But if I put my toe under the pedal and
Pull it upwards it clicks and goes into gear no problem as if the pedal is not returning fully also when stationery
With clutch depressed I can hear a tapping/clicking sound and when I take my foot of the clutch it disappears are theses related and can I do anything or is my clutch on the way out thanks for your help

Sounds like you have 2 faults.
1st is air in the system, not allowing the clutch to fully disengage the gear. Or there is wear in the master cylinder or it's rod, preventing it from fully disengaging the clutch.

2nd could be the concentric release bearing is damaged or worn, or there is a lot of play in the DMF.

Hi nodge thanks for taking the time to get back to me think you could be right about the master cylinder/ rod I will be doing the
Clutch anyway so will probably just replace everything as I pull trailers quite often so I would like to have confidence in it is the clutch really hard to do or do I need any special tools in a freelander 1 td4 we are quite handy with tools but Have no experience in Freelander's Thanks again

If you already know how to change a clutch then the TD4 is the same with a few extra jobs before you get to the gearbox. Take a look here and read carefully. A recent contributor struggled to get at certain bolts because he didn't read the list of jobs to do properly.
