The clutch on lightweight is starting to play up.

I have the shared bean can reservoir on a Rover V8 conversion/S3 gearbox.

The clutch has started to have no resistance when depressed, but pumping it a few times sorts it out and it works as normal. leave it for 5 minutes and its back to hitting the floor before 5 or so pressed gets it back.

Now is this air in the system somehow? no fluid loss, all seems ok. Its happened suddenly, no a gradual decline.

I would be inclined to replace the MC/SC and the flexi hose BUT its impossible to get to the bleed nipple let alone get the slave out  its right up against the bulkhead.

Any ideas what might be causing the problem? are series rovers prone to this for any reason?

Just trying to get ideas before I have to endure weeks of trying to get to the slave cylinder out

maybe I will try to bleed it through 1st. or would this be pointless. I dont understand how air could get in suddenly unless there is a part thats failed.

Cheers,

I should start by saying im no expert....!

I recently had a problem with my clutch, just like yours. One morning after leaving it for a while, no pedal pressure. Unlike yours, no amount of pumping got the pressure back though.

I went for a bleed first, level was bit low in the resevoir but nothing to worry about, and no signs of external leaks. This made me think it must be an internal leak across the master cylinder, but I wanted to eliminate air so, I went for the bleed.

Anyway, bled the system, and pumped through some fresh oil (old oil was black) and hey presto - good pressure and the problem hasnt come back (touch wood!)

Considering your alternative, you have to go for a bleed first surely? In my humble opinion anyway!

I hope this helps.
