Hi all, I'm a recent proud owner of a P38 4.6 HSE and it came to me with what seems to be a very common problem. Once you start driving I get the ABS and TC lights on the dash and an orchestra of beeps, which my wife finds very amusing for some reason (ooh look its talking to you etc..)

I had a look around the forum and followed advice to check the ABS sensors were clean and seated properly, they weren't, one of them was filthy. So cleaned and replaced I followed usual fuzzy logic that ABS problems usually clear the dash light once driven if no fault is found. It worked I set off with ABS and TC lights on but once I had gone 10 yards they went out. 3 mile journey and no lights on, looks like I have solved the problem.

now the reason for the post is that in every other car I have had the ABS light comes on for a few seconds once you start the car and goes out once it has checked the system. The one on my rangie only goes out once I drive a few yards, is this normal? I only ask with one eye on the MOT as an ABS light showing is a fail.

the options I can see is 1. this is normal for a rangie or 2. I need the codes clearing for it to go off staight away.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated

That is normal on the Rangie - at least I hope so cos mine does it and I have no faults (checked with a Faultmate) - my Honda also did exactly the same thing - drive 20 yards then the ABS light goes out.

So don't worry

It looks like you have had a cheap fix there :)

YAY! thanks for the reply guys, I was bracing myself for a world of expense to fix it but looks like I got away with that one. Now just the cruise button and rear wiper to fix and I'll have a fully functioning rangie, oh and replace the straight through exhaust (sounds great for about 2 mins before becoming wildly annoying!!)
