Ok, i admit defeat, ideas perleeze!
It all started with a seized viscous coupling and a transfer box chain that sounded more like miss whiplash than a useful bit of engineering after it's 170k miles and has ended with a big headache...
Decided a complete replacement was easiest way to go so at weekend out came old tired metal and in went less tired gearbox/transfer.
like a divvy i didn't check the kickdown cable on 'new' box and yes it was seized solid but at about the 1/3 throttle position near the throttle end...
Tried car round the block and only had 1st gear and reverse..
So i cut off the knackered kickdown cable near the gearbox so the kickdown cam returned to it's stop, tried round the block again and only seem to have 1st and second, also the engine seems to rev a lot higher than it used to to pull away.
Is this all down to the kickdown cable probs or is it likely the buggrering gearbox is nay good??
New kickdown cable coming tomorrow but it'l be a while til i get the time to fit it.
help perleeze!

thanks, was what i were thinking just a ****er after putting it all back together... I guess if it cures the problem i should be grateful for small mercies tho..
