Hi All,

I've spent the last couple of days reading through bits on this forum, and searching for relevant stuff. It's just one of those thing where no-one else has asked quite the same question as I'd ask.....

so, first proper post time:

I'm trying to decide on exactly which landy I want, now that I'm in a position to swap my economical commuting car for a landy. the most important factors are as following:

1. off-road ability (I hope to keep it for a long long time, and we're looking at buying a proper farm in the next 3 - 4 years, only hobby farming at the min)

2. Fuel Economy (I think this means 200tdi comes off best, but please correct me if i'm wrong)

3. Road-rage reduction (I do have a bit of a problem with road rage in my saab. I never had this problem in the defender that I owned, so for me, i'm thinking defender is the way to go again, suggestions welcomed)

4. usefulness/expandability/tool security

so, the other little bits on my mind are the debate i'm having with SWMBO over whether we need 3 seats or 5, and whether we could convert some of it into a camper.

There's a lot going on in this post I know, but bear with me...

this is what i'm thinking so far:

110 defender hard-top or county.... convert back into camper, with tool storage fitted in the back too, and fold-away back seats? 200tdi engine 30mpg ish?

If that's about right, I'd love to know, and please shout up if you've got other suggestion...

I'd also be interested in how much everyone thinks this vehicle would cost to buy....

the '92 110 defender ex-severn trent, 200tdi, 90k miles was advertised at £2000 and I bought for £400 in 2007. I then sold for £2100 last jan after having some work done... are these prices still about right?

the last thing is, has anyone else done this compromise conversion with camper AND load space?

The only real load-space worry that I have at the moment is stock-care kit (vet stuff) and animal feed, and also my chainsaw and loads of logs.... do i sacrifice the load space and make a nifty trailer? trailers are a bit of a pain in the arse, and then i would'nt be able to have my saw/kit with me if i had the sheep trailer on...

anyway, apologise for the long blurb... you're help with my headache would be most appreciated.

my 110 hardtop is mid conversion at the mo but its pretty much what you described. fold up benches, all larger stuff (table, bed) is removable so load space aint affected much. Think about roof storage as well.

Thanks... any photo's or tips would be most welcomed... roof storage I thought could provide a backup-camper option... those roof-rack tents? roof storage for kit is interesting though... as long as it could be made bloody secure!

All I've done so far is clad the walls and roof but will post pics when more stuff goes in. roof tents are expensive depending where you going you may as well use a normal tent. look at roof trunks as well.

Cheers.. agree 100% on the expense bit... probably not worth it then...

out of interest, what are you cladding the walls with? 6mm ply?

cheers

Adam
