Hello
I have been told by Tunit that I can chip my Disco 300tdi auto, using a Tunit II, another company tells me that it can’t be done, can anybody help me to answer this question, I just want to find out before paying heaps of money only to find out none of these chips work on a old Disco

Thanks

check twistedperformance.co.uk they do a chip for the 300tdi, will set you back £395 gives a power gain of 25bhp and torque gain of 50nM or for an extra 5-15bhp they can supply you with an upgraded intercooler for £325.
you should check them out they do plenty for the 300tdi.;)

Hi

I have a 1998 ES Auto and after doing a lot of research found that the late auto's can be chipped. I had mine done and love it.

Enjoy

Mark

Hi Mark, have you noticed any significant drop in mpg? What are you getting from a tank full?

Hi
I had my 300tdi 97 Auto upgraded by Allisport with the following. Upgraded intercooler; EGR blanked; replacement downpipe (remove Cat) & ITG air filter. The difference was highly noticeable and well worth the expense. Then to finish of the job I had it chipped and now its Bl...y fantastic. I've just returned from a round trip holiday to Alicante Spain (3500 miles) with absolutely no problems other than I may have lost my licence several times over. The performance and power are most noticeable especially when you realise you can power up the Pyranees mountain roads effortlessly. Pulling away even with an auto is unbelievable whilst cruising around 90 on dual carrage ways between major towns I got between 27 -29 mpg but powering up the hills and winding roads it dropped to 22-24 however, blame it on my right foot. I'm now seriously thinking of fitting LPG as it improves the combustion, lowers engine noise and gives better economy. Of course it's all relative and does it justify the cost. In my case I've always had powerful cars and whilst I rarely abuse the power I do believe it's important to have it. It can save your life when pulling out of our modern day junctions and it's definately helpful when pulling the caravan especially up those long inclines.
If I treat it nicely the extra power makes driving the 300tdi far more enjoyable and safer and I don't seem to be getting any losses from the economy. One note of caution though, you must look after your investment by keeping it well serviced. Trust this helps.:D :D

Hi Mark
what type/model did you fit? where does it get fitted on a 300tdi? have you a connection drawing/pictures? i to have carried out a lot of research and really want to buy a chip....................many thanks

Hi Tony,

I only use my disco for towing our 8m twin axle caravan so couldn't really give you an accurate MPG. On a recent trip to Devon towing the caravan from Birmingham, utilising the car whilst in Devon, towing back to Bream sands, using the car around Bream and then towing home again I returned an average MPG of 27 which I was very pleased with.

I have carried out all the upgrades that donboon has and yes whilst the outlay is expensive, the transformation in my opinion is worth it.

Very pleased.

Hi again
My installation was carried out by Allisport the same day, no charge. The chip upgrade could have been done two ways. !st. clip on an accessory however you can get problems (sometimes major) with loose or poor quality connections, upside is you can sell it on although many don't trust used chips. 2nd the way I had mine fitted. The ECU is remove and the chip replaced & remapped. Advantages are that the quality of installation is much better, not so noticeable by Insurers, remapping is equally easy. Downside is if the ECU packs up it may take your chip with it and you can't sell it on.
As I said, Allisport fitted the lot, no charge, the work is checked and tested before you drive away, any problems they loan you a car, Total cost dare I say was £700 plus VAT.

thanks checked this site and looks like a 300tdi auto can be chipped..............many thanks:)

I would say that as rule of thumb "If its got a Maf (Mass Air Flow sensor, got wires going to it in air intake between engine and air filter) it's a model that can be chipped!!

Mines a 1995 and has'nt n can't

I've just cleaned intercooler, pipes, inlet manifold & blanked off the EGR which made a great difference to performance but never saw it in mpg as my right foot's weight always increases in weight pro-rata/performance!!:D

I know someone who can stick some wires init and a NAF air flow sensor, will that help? ;) Seriously though removing the CAT and fitting a bigger intercooler really did make a surprising differrence and you could stick the old bits under the throttle pedal to improve economy:D
