Hey guys,

Just picked up my 2000 Discovery II TD5, but have noticed something very annoying!

If I start the engine and sit in the car for maybe 2 minutes, it starts to chime continuously, with no lights lit on the dash so I am unsure as to why this is! If I fiddle with the headlight switch or the HDC switch it seems they will sometimes stop, likewise stopping the engine and restarting it silences the chimes too!

Any suggestions as to what might be wrong?

David

hi there
im no disco expert but check all the lights that should be lit up on the dash on start up are lit, what i mean is there maybe a fault light on behind a bit of tape behind the dash

Well, having read your reply, I thought I'd pop down and check.

Nope, it isn't the seatbelts - plugging in the seatbelts makes no difference. I can usually make it stop by pressing the Hill descent control button, let it chime for a bit because of that, and then turn it off..

When I testdrove the vehicle, the ACE light was on yellow and the garage owner (not an LR dealer) said he'd solve it for me. At this point, it DIDNT chime though.

He said that because the vehicle has had a rear spring conversion done he has disabled ACE (the light no longer lights when you turn the key).

Does this give anybody any clues?

Cheers,

David

Seeing as he said he has some kind of diagnostic tool, I am betting he just turned ACE 'off'? At least, in my previous tinkering with Volkswagen diagnostics, you could do things like that?

If he has taken the light out, that would explain why I don't have one! Hmm... I will give him a ring tomorrow!

and as the car been told that it now has coil springs fitted (ecu reprogramed)

i think you need to get it pluged in at a land rover speicialist and tell him what you have told us

I agree, I would think its the SLS going mad as its all been disconnected and still thinks its on air.

You need to have the BCU read / configured for coils imo, or "atleast" checked to see if it has been switched off.

Aha, now I know what the problem was!

The rear ACE pipes had corroded leading to a low ACE fluid situation, so the car lot guy had fixed the problem by ripping the LED off the dash circuit board. He is currently getting me a new dash :-(

Thanks for all the suggestions guys !

David
