Chequerplate

Hi all,

As mentioned in my 'introduce yourself' section, im after my first landy.

I'm looking for a 200/300tdi that is as original as possible. I have seen something I like the look of and it has chequerplate on the sills and door bottoms only. My question is, could it be original? Did landrover offer this on 1997 models?

Correction, the chequerplate is on the sill only.

Chequerplate is stuck on to cover corrosion or dents or both.

Thanks for all the responses guys. Just wanted to check if there was such a thing as standard issue chequerplate from landrover. It seems like the answer to that is yes.

Not always. It is also used to make the owner not feel such a big girls blouse and inadequate in all that is manly. Normally applied by 5 foot bald accountants from Daventry when not out train spotting.

For me its only use is on top of the wings, so you don't dent them when you stand on them. (Why would you stand on the wings? I can't remember when I did that but I know I have done). Also protects them against scratches from the toolbox when you are delving in the engine bay.

Personally, I like the clean lines of the 90 without any chequerplate but they seem to be almost impossible to find

It can always be added if you like it and removed if you don't.
Personally I hate it.

Hi flat, you make a good point about removal. I don't like it either and it's currently really restricting my choice of vehicles to buy.

I'm guessing the wing panels are riveted on. Assuming the sill chequerplates are not hiding anything, are these bonded on or riveted also?
