Chequer plate wing tops

Cairns Blue 110 TD5 CSW. Can't decide.
Bought sill chequer plate pieces and took a year to decide whether to fit them!! Now fitted and l like them.

Chequer plate colour black.

Yes. Invaluable for placing tools/tea/feet on !

No - I had them on mine when I bought it, repainted her about 3 years ago and have not got round to refitting them yet... I don't think I want to, but I sort of need to as I now have bloody holes all round the tops of my wings! Wish I had filled them before I painted.

Unless you need to stand on your wings a lot or some other daft thing then I would not bother with them. I don't actually really see a point in them at all and once you have fitted them you are sort of stuffed if you change your mind. If I was doing something like that again I would silicone them on so at least you could gently pry them back off.

Im fitting 3mm plate to mine as I often find myself standing on the wings or using them for putting tools and tea on!

Not sure about the wing tops, but when I bought my 90 the wing tops had been stood on and were a bit wrinkly so I added black wing tops to match and its better than the wrinkles.

Perhaps if your truck is cosmetically perfect it's a harder decision, but for me the functionality wins every time. As has been pointed out, an invaluable addition if you do any of your own spannering.

Hmmm.....l like the look of them but hesitate at drilling the holes. The wings are pretty much perfect.

Massively, my wing tops are dented now from kneeling on them all the time

Though fitting mine with rivnuts so they are removable, just left with rivnut holes lol

I'm a fan of resting tools and cups of tea on my wing tops. The pattern also stops things rolling around. Mines a light turquoise metallic blue, they plate's currently silver but may paint it black if I rebuild it at some point.

If you have spots on the roof I have heard the reflections can cause issues at night. My mate also flies and says my Defender stands out from miles away when it's sunny.

I would say yes
I even put new top panels on and drilled them
the amount of times I have knelt on them to get into the engine bay i'm glad I did
and great for putting tools on when you are working on it

Not for me if the wings are good and you don't plan to stand or kneel on them, but essential if you use your wings as steps/platforms.

Chequer plate is the ugliest fitment ever on a land rover. It just looks terrible, i always think about what it is hiding under there. Better resale value without the stuff, i wont buy if fitted. Offroader is different, plaster it all over.

Have to disagree...two very similar vehicles, personally I think the silver chequerplate makes the whole thing "gel" a bit more and makes the wheels look better. And it looks a shed load better than rippled panels/scuffed paintwork! It's a utility Land Rover at the end of the day...

+1 breaks up the monotone block colour, mine (epsom green) looks 100% better with black wing plate for sure.

Agreed, I think the Epson Green and the Black checker works well. Not a massive contrast but just enough...

That looks great! Keep a good eye on it, bloody thieves are having a field day with Landies at the moment.

May go for the black wing top chequer then on my Cairns Blue 110.
Silver may make a better contrast but l already fitted the black sill covers.
The wing tops dent easily....l dropped a mug of tea on the wing and it dented it.

What colour are your wheels? IMHO wheels and chequer need to match (unless black chequer on a black vehicle...)
