Just seen one on sale, a sheet of steel for the bonnet, will the bonnet take the weight of someone standing on it ( 18 stone) will the bonnet struts support the weight with the 2mm steel plate fitted?
Do you then need a side ladder to be able to get onto the bonnet to stand on it?
All made by Bearmach allegedly.
Anyone done this?

Mine has chequer plate on the bonnet and takes my weight easily .. but it's aluminium not steel .. :)

I step up from the bumper ...

So does anyone have a steel one? can you still open the bonnet with that weight?
got an argumemt at work about them, hence why steel

Mines got 3mm alloy and it may not bend but the bonnet doesnt like it and never quite fits right afterwards.
Whatever you fit it really needs some internal bracing inside the bonnet itself, or maybe the army snatch one piece alloy job?

Lol I am not wanting to buy it yet, I wanted to know if anyone has a steel checker plate bonnet. Does it still open, can you stand on it without damage?
You don't want steel, you want ally, and internal bracing that has supports internally on the inner wings.

Steel at 2mm thick plus tread bars will be a ferkin heavy lump & far from pretty once it starts to corrode and rust streaks across the bonnet, won't be anywhere near flexible as the alloy that would follow curvature of the bonnet.

Perfectly doable, can look nice if you get a dull anodised black one, I drove a D1 with a polished ally one and it near on blinded me shen the sun blazed across it!!

Out of curiosity, you planning on standing up there often?

Lol I hope not, it was just seeing syeel oned on fleabay made me wonder if anyone would use them, but would ally ones take my weight? Guess it's something to look at after waxoyling and stage 1.

So long as the inner wings are not rotten then all is good, you could brace off the inner wings or put a strut over the engine using the top shock mounts.

Wouldn't be too hard to figure out what box section you'd need.
