Wierd question and probably f*****g stupid!

Bought landy obout 18 months ago and was told it had a galvanised chassis replacement, bulkhead done etc etc. When went to view had plenty of surface rust and questioned the chassis being galvanised. Now after doing bit of history, production records show mine to be petrol not diesel, if it was all changed ages ago could the galvo chassis have this surface rust? or/and How do you know if it was a galvanised chassis that was once fitted?

stupid this might be but if I don't ask i'll never learn!

cheers all

if it was galv then it would look like it ,the galv does thin with age and disappear in places like old corrugated iron sheet ,it dosent sound like a galv chassis

That's what I thought, perhaps just a new standard chassis? Can't find stamped numbers anywhere but still to get the wire brush, etc out!
Did ask the question why replace the chassis but not paint it? answer: "selling it for a 'mate' don't know"

i'll post some pics tomorrow

cheers

If it's a galvi chassis that's unpainted then it will be a dull solved color
If it's a standard that's not been understands it will be black paint
If you have a little rub with some sand paper and any paint shows a standard steel surface it's def a standard chassis
As long as it's solid brush the whole thong down and apply plenty of underseal
Bit of a cheek sombody selling it as a galvi if it's not

Chip away a little bit on a sharp corner somewhere out the way with a screwdriver, you should be able to lift a little bit of the plating if it has any.
The condition is also a clue, if its a few years old a standard chassis will have some rust, whereas a galv will have none unless its more than 10 year old.

here with as promised! As you can see had a little rub here and there!

if you have been sold that as a galv chassis m8 u wana go and have some strong words with him.......

Embarressingly only just looking properly at chassis after 18 months, rear is a bit more 'rusty', see image. But did have a good poke when purchased and solid everywhere, rear just flaking a little more!

:D

 Apologies on my earlier post, to clarify when we viewed vehicle with said galv. chassis basically told seller it wasn't (well my brother did!) and knocked £300 straight of his original ebay starting price (haha).

But just other day someone questioned the degree of rust and brain went into overdrive and thought....maybe

.......still learning and a long way to go!

Never mind the chassis, you've got much worse problems than that, looking at this photo.... There's a Britpart sticker there!!!

Sell it.
