I've been trawling through land rovers for sale and noticed that there are only pictures of the shiny bits on offer, surely if you state that the chassis is solid then a few pics of underneath would be in order, I would rather trust a picture than the word of the seller or maybe its just me
I'm going to jet wash my chassis before sale, not that it needs it, and present the underside just as much as the shiny bits, probably in better nick underneath anyway :)

I think if its a genuine seller with nothing to hide they will send pictures of any area you wanted, I know I would.
You are usually limited to how many pics you can get on an advert & by the time you've pictured all panels & interior
under bonnet ect you've none left to put pics up of underneath. :)

I think you can get more than ten pics on fleabay and I think its more important to have at least two of the chassis bits that matter, outriggers and rear cross member at least. It makes me think they are trying to hide something, especially when they are wanting over 5k for a less than perfect defender.

I agree. One thing that always attracts me to items or sellers on eBay is honesty.

If you accurately describe something I think you’ll have a better chance of selling

The seller seamed genuine enough listing faults that need attention plus he has decent feedback
it also has had some money spent on it but saying that, there is no way id spend nearly
5 grand without viewing any motor especially a land rover.
If I bid on something blind then got there & is wasn't as described I would tell the seller to
poke it nowt they can do anyway but if you take a chance buy/pay for it then get it delivered
without a viewing & it turns out to be a bucket you don't have a let to stand on then it will be a
very expensive lesson. :)

I agree with you but no chassis pictures, have to assume that it's rotten, would be in his interest to show how good the condition of the main structure of the vehicle is to maximise his final price, unless of course it is a bit dodgy, looking at the rear cross member one has to assume that the rest is past its best as well :)

SOLD for £4750 !! :)

Yes, it's always worth a visit and a look underneath for a vehicle you're intending to spend a significant amount of money on. When I was buying mine, I lost interest in a few possible candidates because the chassis would have needed a good deal of work. The vendors were particularly keen, it seemed, to get me in and driving their wares. But the first thing I wanted to do was crawl underneath.

I'm looking for a defender at the moment and considering the silly money some are asking I'd assume the chassis on these trucks in particular should be mint.! There's one fairly local to me £13k for 2001
Agree with previous posters, I know for sure the first question I ask a seller is about the chassis/bulkhead condition before viewing as most seem to be a day's drive from me and I don't really want a wasted trip. Another good indicator nowadays is the mot history, have a look to see the dreaded 'prescribed area corroded' description in the history, it'll give you an idea upfront and accurately.

Anyway if anyone knows of a descent 90, rot free, around 10 yrs old going for a song, give me a shout.:D

Yes, the TD5 is getting very collectable. Those of us who have one are probably enjoying very low depreciation. However, given that one will likely be paying a five figure sum, a trip across the country to have a look is only a small part of the overall spend. I'd have found it very limiting if I'd just looked at what was available locally.

I wouldn't have taken a chance on that one either, there was only 1 bidder with 2 bids it looks like
he has increased his maximum price but who knows it could be his mate bidding it up, its a big
gamble at the end of the day one of the cons of the internet

I always look at the bidders history & if its a private listing or any with zero feed back I don't bid at all ;)

Found any more so we can tear it apart lol :D

First glance it looks nice, but I noticed a few points .. No chassis pictures worth the name, but the one at the rear showing the rusty towbar, crusty cross-member and almost corroded through body plates/body, showing he found some gloss paint to cover the rust up, I reckon. Maybe Dulux .... Silly thing, the A-bar at the front is only bolted at the rear, hardly worth pushing anything 'cos the base plates would bend, making it just an aesthetic add-on, similar the wing vents, and the holes on the front above and around the lights where guards have been removed???

It just looks tarted up to sell .. and quickly at that!

I always ask why they do so much work "in the last 12 months" just to sell it on .... It might be a good one, but it's just a bit pricey for a driveable project I reckon.

Quick response .. looks good at first, but rebuilt in 2015 and only 1000 miles since? Why rebuild it then? I'd say it might need tank and pipes cleaning, or even Injectors, due to 'old' diesel gumming up and diesel tank emptying and refilling. I know it ain't as bad as petrol, but even so. Chassis where it's shown looks good, indeed everywhere does, but for me there's too much chequer plate, too much cosseting and moving away from the basic, which is what it was, Landrover of the period. I mean, you can't even see what the seatbox and cab floor actually look like. They've tried to make it look newer, way newer, than it actually is, nice for some, but not my cuppa tea.

Nearly £18k + for a G reg 19j er, no thanks.

Agree, if I was spending nearly 18k I'd be looking at a very good original condition truck about 10 years old. Not keen on the chequer plate interior...each to their own.
Think the seller needs to consider using a decent camera, the photos are crap.
