I cannot remember which model of Cobra radio it was I bought a few years ago, but it was dreadful. It pulled in a very good signal but it's output was absolute garbage. No-one could hear me beyond a half mile or so (no I didn't have it set to -10Db mode.) When I returned it a few days later I was told that this was a very copmmon complaint about them. As I remember, it did look similar to the one in the link you have posted, but this was about 8 years ago when they were a new model to the UK.

There are a number of CB forums where you should be able to find reviews of that particular set, but remember, that no matter how much you spend on a CB rig, it's the antennae that is the really important bit, a great rig will work **** with a bit of wet string for an aerial so get the best aerial you can, I personally swear by Sirio brand, they aint cheap, but they work bloody well.

Give jim a call at 4x4CB, he'll give you advice, may be poni you in the right direction even. I got a midland and it great. he held my hand through the selection of a cb

Dont know much about that particular radio, but I kinda regret buying my radio, with an LCD display...unless you're looking straight on, its hard to see what channel you're on...Mines mounted in my Disco, under the map-pocket near the sun roof.....
If there's a next time, I'd get one with an LED display.

Doesn't answer your Q, but my 2p's worth...,.

Yeah, as Mr. Burton says, the location you intend to fit the rig is worth considering. The Wee midlands are very reliable and work well too. Also look at Knightscb.co.uk

They are based in Kirton in Lindsey (is also where I get any components I need for repairs etc.) and their mail order is good.

Same here , I can just see mine as I am tall, and long in the body. I have thougth aboout selling mine, nice little rig, but then again how many time to you change channel, my mates and i seem to use the same one and stick to it, I only use the rig when we are together.

The thing i find a pain is having a channel change buttons on the mike.

I bought a midland 98 package deal from 4x4 cb on Friday but he e-mailed me yesterday saying he was not happy to sell me a midland 98 because they have recently proven very unreliable. Apparently the screen turns on but the radio will not receive or transmit. He recommended this radio as another option, but I just wanted to see if anybody had any gripes about it.

id say balls, got my midland mounted on the dash and it never lets me down. been wet and covered in mud and its still going strong.

Have had a Midland 78+ sitting in my garage for a year or so that wouldnt transmit or receive but was eventually going to get around to having it fixed.

a friend told me the other day that you can change the frequency on these models (not sure about the 98) and turned out mine wasnt running on UK/EU frequencies hence the problem .

All sorted now and works well with very good sound quality, build quality has yet to be tested ;)

I got the Midland Alan 121, seems a good little rig, I have had other rigs in the past many moons ago, Amstrad's cobra's, midland's, Audioline', and others but that was in the days of the good old AM's

I have always found the Midlands to be good. I dont think you will find many of the makes are bad realy, its like anything even the cheap and chearful electrionics are good nowdays.

I have the cheaper TTi Radio (500 series?)
Its Basic, but works well...its just that LCD screen at a funny angle that urks me....

There was a guy from TTi who used to frequent a PMR forum I also used to read....he got lots of positive feedback from the forums on alot of the kit they sold...

i got this 1 of amazon but its not listed there anymore so here is the link to the sellers site

both are good, i live on the IOW and i was talking to someone who live's nx to the portsmouth uni. was clear aswell. he said i had a 7 bar sig which i think is a good thing lol

Hope this helps :D

I brought one of those from another supplier, did not last long, did not even get to the end of the Green lane, I then replaced it with a Gutter mount from Sirio, I have had no problems with that, saying that I did have a 1.6m Springer on it, but now use a 1m springer, so that may well of helped.

not gone laning since fitting it so not 100% sure how it will hold out but the CB seems good, its all trail and error hey lol

Yeah it is, some people sware by a magmount, but thinking about it , i wouldered if they would get swept off on some of the lanes us lot use, lol
lol i kniow what u mean, i got a mag mount 1st on my jeep but it had moved by the time i got to the end of the lane, and i was taking it easy (ish) so lots of bush etc i think i would of lost it, u got a link for the gutter mount u have?
