Hi all
I've got a 3.9 disco 1 and the cats have gone making a very unpleasant din. For various reasons the car won't pass another MOT and it's got body damage so when the current ticket expires in 6 months it'll probably be scrapped. In the meantime is there a cheap solution to the 'orrible racket.

It's been suggested that I could remove the cats and take out the insides. Or could I just replace them with a plain piece of pipe.

Any ideas will be appreciated

Thanks in advance

If you de-cat it you may need to change the tune select resistor in the efi loom. You'll need the resistor from a non-cat 3.9; this stops the ECU looking for the lamda sensors and it will then use the non-cat fuel map. The resistance value I believe can be found in Rave or Haynes manual.

It's been mentioned in a few forums that drilling a holes and screwing a few wood screws into the cat stops the rattling, they say it works.

doesnt sound very water tight, i reckin tw@tting it with a hammer to jam the cats up is the best way!!

after all tw@tting with a hammer is the first thing and self respecting lany owner should do!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D

Er um thanks for the suggestions chaps.

It's not lpg. I don't do much mileage, I use the disco for the seven seats and to tow our caravan.

I may try the ****ting method then the straight through pipe idea.

I will keep you in touch with the results

Cheers

Terry

I have de-catted my EFI and have never heard of this.

What change would I see with this mod? At the moment the emisions are very high, would they go down?
