Hi all,
my G/F and i have found a series 2a landy.

the underneath is very sound and the engine is in good fettle. the gearbox has a whine and appears to leaking a small amount of oil (the oil is perfectly clean though) . they have a spare gearbox and also a brand new canvas cover (its currently hard top) with a frame.

its 1968 - what should i pay - got 12 monthes mot.

whats he asking?
difficult without seeing it, but id say owt between 500 and 1000 quid.
maybe even 1500 for a really good example.

ps. i know the canvas hoods are expensive though.

:D If it leaks clean oil possibly doing more to a gallon of fuel than it is a quart of gear oil :D

Pricing these things is part of dealers black art ;) Here's a brief checklist any "No" answers walk away....

1. Are you sure its the model you really want?
2. Are you prepared to maintain a 38 year old vehicle?
3. Is it within the price range you expected to pay?
4. Are you prepared to buy and not make a quick quid?

Another source of info is the classifieds in the magazines - they give you an idea of what people are asking. Then bid downwards for the faults you can find - be reasonable as some jobs may cost £500 but you won't knock that off a £1500 priced vehicle.

Best of luck

cheers guys.

it is the model i want - well its either that or a series 1, but they are too pricey.

it is a bit more thatn i planned to spend, but its worth getting something decent in the first place.

the guy wants 1800 quid with the canvas top (brand new) and sticks.

its certainly priced high!

funny you should say that - i offered him exactly that and he looked none to impressed! :D

starting to get a bit dis-heatened and thinking maybe this is not the motor for us. plus i have got a gearbox to rebuild in the rally car, so may pass this one up and if its still hanging around in a few weeks time, review the situation.

let him look non too impressed. he may still have the landy for months yet.
there plenty others for sale. a series landy aint the easiest thing to sell these days.
a very specialised niche market. i cant see any sane person buying one for day to day useage?

sorry to WP etc...
:)

kinda felt in two minds - yes i want it, but am i prepared to be swallow my pride and pay over the odds for it!?!?

i get the feeling it aint gonna fly out the door and if anyone else wants it at that pricem they better have it. i reckon if i was to get serious in searching, i *could* find a better condition vehicle for the same money he is asking - ie: an enthusiast owned motor thats spot on. i want the best basis to work from to start with to then maintain, rather than something that needs doing up and then keeping on top of.

i have had loads of high maintenence motors and i just dont need another project. the rally car is a big project in itself and i cant afford either the time or the money to get littered up. this landy could be a total electrcal nightmare for example. the whole point of the car is to have fun in it, so i dont need (too much) grief!

will hang in there, at the right price i am prepared to take a chance on the car - but only so long as its a decent price.

aye. thats the way id feel about it too at that price. let him stew awhile.

btw, theres a really nice one for £1750 complete with a galvanised chassis, on another forum. enthusiast owned and a lot of work done on it.

It sounds like you already have real doubts about it. I say walk away, another one will come along.
