well ive learnt my lesson never buy a landy on ebay.... owned for 4weeks so far fuel leak, oil leak (not a little one) 1st rear shock fell off on roundabout, 2nd shock fell off on a bogy lane, another oil leak... now loss of power,

the sad thing is i was warned these discos are crap but due to ignorance and that fact im british and so is a landy i didnt listen. your all gonna yell but im now thinking the shogun may of been better..... the fact is i dont want a jap so to cut a long story short....

i am wondering if anyone in the leeds area (wetherby, boston spa) if passing would pop their head round my gate and see if they can understand my problems... i dont have a clue about land rovers yet. and haynes manual isnt much cop.... i just need pointing in the right direction im all for learning by doing it yourself... of course my kettle is always on and full and if pointed in the right direction (and not the scrappers) i'll get a crate of wateva you drink......

thanks to anyone who replies and helps.....

just because you bought it off ebay doesn't mean you can't take it back and get your money back.

So you come bundling in here after buying a shed of ebay without any research first! Feel lucky this site offers expert advice and parts are cheap (don't buy britpart)

if it was local then fair enough but it wasnt local and as for the bloke i got it off he seems to of vanished so for the time being i need to solve the issue thanks for your help though.....

post up some pics so we can waste a few hours taking the **** outta yer new rotbox - might be some good advise mixed in with the urine extraction

Fair enough, if you've resigned yourself to keeping it and fixing it then good for you. There are plenty of folk on here who might be willing to help but you may have to wait a while as most folks are probably out having fun in the snow, which is where I'm going after a brew and a sausage sarnie:D.

Good luck and:welcome2:.

Sorry mate, but local or not, if I'd bought a bag of spanners I'd be prepared to go back to his house and sort it out. Unless you met him somewhere...

Pursue it through ebay, or if you got it REALLY cheap, use the leftover cash to get it straightened out....

We're all in the same boat......nobody actually LIKES Landys, they buy one in a moment of madness and spend the rest of their sad,oil covered lives pouring every penny and spare moment of time in a desperate and futile mission to have the thing running and on the road before the snow disappears.....the ingestion of cheap, low nutrition food contaminated with engine and gearbox oil leads to a delusional state in which the sufferer comes to the conclusion the only escape from the tragic spiral of woe that their life has become is to......

BUY ANOTHER LANDY!!!!! :doh::frusty::crazy::biggrin1:

If it's any consolation, I have recently bought an L reg Disco Commercial on ebay and it's not been a good buy either! I've always had 90 Defenders and know them inside out but bought the Disco for a bit of winter comfort and a heater. No problems are insurmountable with any Land Rover and parts are cheap and generally not too hard to fit. As long as your Disco isn't rotten everything else is generally sortable. Shockers are wear and tear, engine lack of power could be anything, my 300 tdi Disco is gutless, I think the head gasket may be suspect or the injectors are past their best.
It sounds like a bag of nails too but was described on ebay as a good runner and the seller also forgot to mention a rotten left hand sill and back body mounts!
Shoguns are good motors but they too have problems with corrosion, gear boxes etc, you just don't hear of them cos they just get scrapped. Keeping any old vehicle on the road is a challenge but parts for them are exhorbitant compared to Land Rover.
There's loads of people with loads of knowledge on these forums so don't give up, you'll get it sorted 1 way or another!

start with some pics of where the leaks are - was the shock just corroded or did a mount fail ?

pics of it's chassis rails and under the boot carpet are always enlightening

I have bought about 40 motors from ebay...i'd say every one has had some fault, I haven't expected them to be showroom condition and i haven't complained..you pay your money you take your chance...every buyer is looking for a bargain, every seller wants top money...

Only once have i been disappointed, ironically the landy i keep myself, the chassis was not good..however with great help from some of the lads here its now worth more than i paid for it..

If you genuinely feel its been sold under false pretences file a complaint, if you got what you paid for, i.e you initially felt like you'd got a bargain, then stop bitching, fix it and enjoy it.
