I'm thinking of looking at a Disco 2 for sale at a dealer (a fair few miles away), they have said that the chassis is in good condition, yet I can tell from a recent MoT failure on the vehicle that it was badly corroded, as such it has probably been repaired to some degree.

What type of repair should I be looking for? And how would this affect a Disco 2's value? I presume if it has just been plated up this wouldn't be that satisfactory, but if it has had some form of section replacement this would be preferable?

Any advice on what to look for/request before I inspect the vehicle?

Finding a good disco 2 is harder than I first thought!

Hi,
If you search the www for chasis repair options you'll find everything from individual panel sections to rear 1/4 & rear1/2 chassis available. All should be fine if done correctly. Could they send a photo or explain in more detail what's been done?

Depending where the rot was on the back I feel it's on the inside chassis rail where the fuel tank sits then make sure any repair has been done with the fuel tank out. I've seen a couple where the new plate has been welded at the edge but only to give an impression of welded joint. It's hard to tell but take a screwdriver or other prodding instrument and a small hammer if the garage isn't happy you poking around at the chassis then it's probably questionable.
If I was to sell my disco saying chassis in perfect condition or nice strong chassis then I would have no issues with someone checking it's integrity.

However a well repaired chassis shouldn't be an issue in fact most you will look at will probably need welding or have previously been welded. If the chassis is good invest in keeping it that way with paint, dinitril, waxoyl etc

Also ,

Do not ignore the front of the chassis, they also can rot from the inside where the chassis starts to rise just behind the front wheels.

Cheers

I'm soon to chop my rear section off and weld in a new one its been plated before but not where is gone now at the usual place. As the rest seems OK and the fronts been done and is still good I'm not to worried.
Condition reflects price go have a look
