Here's the low down, picked her up 10 days or so ago, she is a little smoky on the start up and for 10 minutes, then quietens down (19J engine )

3 days ago went for the veggy oil fuel mixture with 30/70 diesel/oil ratio and the starting/smoking was a little more prominent.

This morning, went to start her ( warm night in a garage ) and she wouldn't fire, but once she did and then died, continued until battery started to fail abit.

Put the battery on charge and changed the fuel filter, there was some black crap in the bottom of the housing and the filter didn't look too good inside, also checked the first ( closet to front of engine ) Injector which looked oki to me ( sorry no pic ).

Went through the motions of bleeding the system at the filter, then slackened the IP bleed bolt and tried again, this time no show of starting at all.

Re charging the battery at the moment for round 3.

A few questions:

  1. When i crank her over, should i be getting a solid spray of fuel from the fuel pipe leading to the injector ( loosened the nut and pulled the pipe off)
  2. How can i tell if the injectors are clogged or not? Is there a way to clean them or do i have to replace them?
  3. Whilst working i've managed to snap the IP bleed bolt off at the casing, will it cause an issue leaving it like this whilst i source a replacement, or does this need remedying asap ( before running the engine )
I've done some searchs and got some good advice from starter solenoids to clogged injectors and a heap of other bits inbetween, i'm hoping someone has had the same issue with a good result to get her running again.

Cheers

Injector should squirt fuel every fourth stroke of the piston, so it wont be a constant flow.
2:best way to check is take them out and get them tested at local diesel centre. you can just remove from head, fit pipe back on and crank engineover to check, but that wont tell you if spray pattern is right.( fer feck sake dont put your hand or anything else in front of it when you testin it tho!)
3: Should be ok for moment long as its not leaking, best to sort it soon as tho.

Have you got plenty of flow from lift pump

I got her started after 3rd battery charge, if a little rough on idle she's oki on higher revs.

I'm off to pick up a new lift pump and 4 injectors tomorrow but i still have an issue with the broken bleed nipple bolt.

Any ideas how to remedy this?

If i can get it out i'll plug with a standard bolt for now, but it's the ' getting it out ' bit that's the problem ;)

And yes i'm a nob for overtightening it and yes i deserve it :D
