After a beautiful day in the NZ sun driving along the beach my 96' Disco lost power and died on the way home.

Refused to start. after waiting 5-10 minutes started but stopped again before the revs settled.

Ended up calling a tow truck!!!

*** I think i found the problem***

It has to be either : *Fuel Filter * Fuel Pump * Ignition

As i had been through salt water streams and over sand dunes etc I thought it may be salt water arcing somewhere.

Pulled off plug on top of coil to find it had water in it!!!! Cleaned it out and gave it a good oil. Sealed the HT boot with some silicone and re-fitted. All seems to be going well again.

Could that have been the only cause????????

(it's petrol)

I would probably check all of the HT leads and distributer cap for moisture too. If you have had that much water in there it is probably not the only place the water has got in. It would seem atrange that you did not have a problem soner if it got wet.

yep went through lots of salt water 2-3 weeks before. Had no probs since though.

I was driving across a shallow stream, but had to do it at speed to clear the 2 foot 'sand cliff' on the other side. About half way into the stream a huge sweeping wave came from the right going straight over the bonnet. it died. i had to wait 15 minutes before it would start again!!! by that time the tide had come in and was half way up the wheels!!!! Only just pulled out of the sand as they were geting buried!

HT's seem fine, i noticed the plastic seperator bars? are they not meant to touch each other? The dizzy caps in good nic. was bit of corrosion inside the coil well. all sealed up now :)
