Had a play with the ramps today to see what trimming I need to do now I’ve gone up to 245/75/16 tyres, steering stops have been adjusted and I have a small amount to take off of the arch lip but nothing major which is a bonus.

Anyway, took some pics just because. Standard spec britpart springs and dampers all round, cost around £130 and have been spot on so far. Also has britpart polybushes.

Flexytime!

Cool. Not much trimming at all.. Ive never fitted poly bushes before . Did you have hassle with them? Just one of the lads used the same ones and he said there as hard as feck to fit. And they squeak? He may have installed them wrong but just thought I would ask.. infact I know he would have installed them wrong. His nick name is Ana. For Anaesthetic. (Totally Numb from head to toe) mix between Homer Simpson Jeremy clarkson.. mechanical knowledge of clarkson and general knowledge of Homer Simpson .. saying that!! He has remembered where all the greggs pasty shops are in most towns. If you ask him directions he will use greggs and pubs as refernence points .. something funny I will have to tell you and I've promised him I won't say anything as he is going to join the forum shortly.
But he wants his disco all done up so he can post pictures of the complete car before he joins . . I've said post pictures of you building it so people can advise you and others can learn.
He said he will wait till it's all done and people can tell me what they would have done different! And then people will learn from his mistakes! hmmm???? .
Anyhoo back to the point!! And sorry for gate crashing your post! Once I get Sumik in my head I've got to get it out or I go loopy!! Anyhoo. Ana had pulled all his carpets out of his D1 as they were manky and wet.. he couldn't get any of the trim up so in clarkson style. He yanked and rived until they all snapped off and he stanley knifed bits of the carpet out.
His lass went mental as it was there day to day car at the time( she didn't agree with all the mods and tweaks he was doing to it anyway) now it's just all mud and squeaks not mods and tweaks.. anyhoo she done her dinger and told him to put them back in after he had cleaned them. This is when he realised the trims were cracked and he couldnt keep the edges or footwell carpets down. So!! He thought if he glued them in he wouldn't be able to get them out when he went playing in puddles! So he screwed then carpets In with self drilling screws!! Hmmm??? That wouldn't have been my first choice but when your are mechanically Challenged, I was slightly impressed and so was he. But He soon realised a flaw in his plan the following day..
The next door neighbours laddy was having a kick about in the street and the ball went under the disco . this is where you go " the tek screws burst the ball"
that's what I thought anyway! . but no!! Ana dived under the disco to get the ball for the kid and he tore a 3 inch gash in the back of his head that required medical attention.
The dopey git had used 3 inch tek screws to fix his carpet issue and hadn't cut the ends off!! But this wasn't the end of it.. why she wanted the carpets in is because they were going to a friends wedding That day. Well in minutes at this point .. anyhoo .. she wasn't that concerned about the gash in his head. She was more concerned that he had his best and one and only suit on ready for the wedding.. and it was covered in mud and blood..
so this began an argument in the street and they were screaming at each other calling each other all the names under the sun and the end result was, he wasn't taking any responsibilitie for this. As if she didn't make him put the carpets back in.. none of this would of happened!! He's a fekin legend.. don't know what happened to the lads ball.. he probably run over it on the way to the hospital! Anyhoo all advice on the polybushes welcome
just they are number 3 on my list and could do with finding out about other peoples verdicts before I commit. As I'm not listening to Ana.. don't tell him I've told you though!!

I’ve seen shorter posts

I have to be honest and say I got a friendly Land Rover mechanic to fit them using all new bolts so I’ve got no idea what they were like to do. They were quite harsh to start with but have settled, drives nice and tightly now where it used to be very vague, new rubber bushes may have done the same thing, assume these will last longer though.

thanks for that. I will give It a bash! That's the one I want the durability side as it's going to get abused, but didn't want it to be squeaky and stiff for when we go to asda!!
I will give it a bash and put them in.. if that moron can put them in. I'm sure I can..
definitely no squeeks though?

Thanks adamd1

Poly bushes are mostly easy to fit as (some of them) they come in two halves .. where most stock bushes are one-piece. The hard part is getting out the old stock bushes without damaging anything .. ;)

My old Disco 'flexing' a little, on standard springs, shocks, bushes etc ... 31" BFG AT's and no cutting .. this was just at the point where traction was lost with CDL in. What you can't see is that the rear nearside tyre was completely stuffed in the rear wheel well .. ;)

Nothing I love more than one of your stupid stories...what was the thread about again :p

Wow !!! That's some 'flexibilty" on standard set up and it's good to know you can get a 31" under the arch with no hacking They are an amazing machine the D1. Quite underrated. Appreciate the advice lads. will Order them and will be fitting them mid next month. I will post a few photos on "how i did it"

Polyester? From memory the 245/75’s are nearly 31”, might be wider though? Not that I really care as they’re on now!

I’ve not done anything mechanical to it (beyond maintenance etc) and I don’t see any reason to at the moment, it’s only for laning not pay & play. Have Wales and lakes trips this year on top of some Yorkshire etc. Should be interesting to see how she does now it’s got its new boots!

Cool!! The lakes is fab!! Some beautiful places that you would only see if you were a mountain goat or one of this walker type peoples!!
If your keeping it as a day to day mate. I wouldnt do much else to yours , it's a good all rounder and go most places mine will...but you still have the comfort and drivability !! Mines great for playing in the puddles but after 5 miles on the motorway you want to cry . 4 inch lift . Insa turbo knobbly as hell boots.. It's noisy , wobbly, and shakey! A bit like Wor lass when she hasn't had a bottle of broon ale for breakfast!
As soon as you start wanting to play in deep puddles, say goodbye to all your carpets and soundproofing... it never dries out and it starts stinking!!
Bit like Wor lass again!!

It’s getting a raised intake as I’ve already bought that, I don’t intend on needing it but it’s going to be there for safety. I will be doing strata florida on a three day wales trip in April so there’s going to be the danger of water getting in there. Really hope not though!!

This should be it for now, it’s a toy not a daily but I do use it during the week and for odd weekends away on top of the laning trips which are usually many motorway miles away. Just hope the RAI doesn’t make a whole load of noise!
