Hi guys

My power steering pump is playing games with an intermitant seize up when the steering is turned to the left, in the split secon'd it does this the engine pushes the belt round the pulley on the pump, its a 2.5TD ( defender 200TDI engine ) and the belt is tight.

paddocks sell BP ones for around £150 are they any good or not just need to know :)

Is the belt new? Even a tight belt can slip if its a worn one, a worn belt will sit deeper in the groove of the pulley to the point where the belt is only driving the pulley with the flat surface on the point of the belt. A new belt will sit higher in the pulley and use the flank sides of the belt to transmit the drive power (larger surface area so less chance of it slipping). If your belt is more than a couple of years old it may be worth trying a new one first?

I had a Britpart pump, failed after 1000 miles.

Sent it back and bought an OEM manufacturer one and the steering is much lighter and not wandery (the pressure must have been fluctuating) it's been on a while now with no issues.

Right i get you, yeah the belt is about 12 months old and thinking about it i think it was a BP one aswell so yeah i will try a new one of better quality.

i only fitted the BP one as i bought a load of other stuff to do the timing belt and both the timing belt and fan belt came in dayco form but if i remember the power steer belt came in BP form so yeah i will do that ;)
