Hi, I’m looking for advice if that’s ok, I have a 56 freelander TD4 and my break lights have stopped working. The guy in Halfords suggested it could be my break light switch? Has anyone else had this issue? If so, is this an easy job to do myself considering I have zero mechanical expierience?

Just had the same problem and heres what i did.

Checked the bulbs and they was fine. Then i took both the wires off the brake light switch and made a bridge wire witch is a piece of wire with both ends striped back about 10mm. Put each end of the wire in the plugs and if the lights come on then you know the switch is broken.

My defender is a 98 300tdi and my brake light switch is under the bonnet on the back of the brake booster mounting bracket close to the bulkhead. if yours isn't there then it could be mounted on the peddle in the cab.

Hope this helps.

His is a freelander. I think the brake light switch is under the brake pedal on them, not the same position as our defenders.
