Brakes/Swivel ball blunder - Help :o(

Hey everyone,

Well im just rubbing down everything to paint after ive welded the plates on my chassis and noticed the drivers brake cable mount to chassis was almost hanging off...

Flexi pipes and well corroded to both brackets so to get em off I decided to remove both brackets, in order to get brake end off i undone the two bolts holding the bracket on, on top of the swivel ball..

Bracket off fine but crumbs, the whole plate under the two bolts had risen up off the ball joint by 5mm and now one shot was leaking past the ball seal onto my tyre!! ****!

I quickly got a jack and lifted the hockey puck which enabled me to tighten the two bolts back down and now i think the leak has stopped...


Can anyone explain what happened or whether i may have mis-aligned anything on my ball :doh:

It means that by takin' the two bolts out the top of yer swivel housin' it has allowed it to move. There's a pin that goes into a bearing that sits in yer swivel ball....

Ye'll might have to wiggle the housing a bit to get the pin back in (if the bearing isn't knackered) and tighten the bolts back down to the correct torque..... hope that makes sense;)

Indeed buster, by jacking the wheel up I managed to get the bolts in easily and tighten up... I'm guessing it will be sealed ok now on the ball oil seal?

I'll jack up wheel to take it's weight when I refit the bracket ......know any decent flexible brake pipes buster?

It might've been a bit easier tae get at the bracket with the wheel off mate;)

Dunno about the flexi's as ah've stuck some of them braided ones on mine...

Ooooooo shiny braided.....me likes!!

Oh it's quite easy to get to bracket at the moment, no wings or bulkhead make everything a diddle to get to!
Thinking of re-piping both front brakes while it's in pieces.
Are the fittings in the pressure reducing valve for the brakes flared too do ya know chief?

HEHEHEEE! much more responsive they are anaw;)

Aye ah furgot about that:doh: Might want to try and balance the other side so it doesn't happen again;):D


TBH ah've nae idea with the 300 plumbing mate. Mines is quite simple....
