I was traveling a not too rough gravel road yestreday and twice in 30 miles, both times going down slight inclines, the front brakes seemed to engage on their own (in low gear -foot not on the brake pedal) and stayed engaged until my '04 Discovery II came to a complete stop. The brakes then disengaged and all was fine until the next time.

Is this something 'normal' ???? Any help is greatly appreciated.

was there any noise to accompany it? I'm just wondering if it was the traction control system.

Hill descent control it sounds like to me.

Check the manual and the warning light on the dash.

It should not come on in HIGH range and should bleep like crazy if switched on in Hi Range.

There's a push-on push-off button left of steering wheel on dash.

Thanks for the replies. No lights or alarms were noticed when it happened. There was, however, a low rumbling sound from the front when it occurred. My wife mentioned last night that she noticed a rumbling and a right front grab once when leaving a parking lot and entering the street - a slight dip at the gutter.
