Quillia Good evening, been outside with torch blazing !!! Need help to to find problem with brake lights???
Here is my dilemma... brake switch brand new, set properly works fine. Lights are all new but problem still persists.
Then I turn lights on and brake lights do not work! Or are on as the tail lights are brighter?
Would be greatful for any advice. All bulbs are in correctly. Everything thing was good and then problems. Before I changed lights this problem occurred! If earthing please tell me good remedy to follow to diagnose fault.
Thank you

are you saying brake lights work fine till you switch tail lamps on, brake light filament should be the brightest,

Bulbs in wrong, bad earth, wire interchanged, tail for brake etc, dodgy towbar electrics, wiring chafed where it enters or leaves chassis are all places to look

Yes that is correct once tail light on brake light is also on. As no change in brightness when brake pedal depressed.

cheers have looked all wiring seems good! All sheafs good no obvious signs any ideas? Apart from stripping sheaf from wires and checking for hot spots (burns)
It just happened no warning! Fuses are all good

Your username and avatar picture look familiar. Are you on another forum?
It is a little tricky to decipher the situation. But, Ignition on and all lights off, foot on brake and brake lights come on. Put lights on and when you put the brakes on you can't tell if the brake lights are coming on. Either they are not, or the tail lights are so bright you can't tell they are on. Is that it?

+1 wot @jamesmartin said.
People will often say that all the wiring is good, and that might be the case. However, very often the fault with twin filament lights is with the earth connection between the silver body of the bulb and the earth contact inside the bulb holder.
Clean the inside of the bulbholder with a bit of emery cloth and if necessary give the contact a bit of a tweak to try to improve the connection.

THank you will do and let you know
Stay well

Cheers RR PROBLEM FIXED brake light feed on trailer loom sheared by rear crossmember up by fuel tank! Cleaned dried mud and found insulation charred and copper on copper cross feeding and interfering with pick-up combined lights.
To much expo mayb
