Hi

One of the pistons on my brake caliper has seized, whats the best method to try and free it?? Its been fitted with a Disco 1 front axle so has a four pot caliper.

Regards

Andy

put wood betewwn the disc and the working pistons to stop them coming out , then start her up and get someone to slowly push the brake peddle , it should come out .

best put something between that piston and the disc to stop it fully coming out , clean up best you can ( but not with rough arse samdpaper etc ) .
Really you should replace the piston and seals

As sypher says, its best to replace the seals, otherwise it will seize up again soon.

It happens because the wiper seal (not the main seal) gets worn out/damaged and allows water by which then gets trapped behind it and rusts the piston to the caliper. You'll see what I mean when you do it.

If you do go for seal replacement, try to get the pistons as far out as possible before before disconnecting from the hydraulic system, as they can be a bugger to get out without damage otherwise.;)
