Hi all,

Prior to a long drive to Spain a few weeks back I decided to replace the brake fluid as it had no been done since I acquired the vehicle some years ago and the brake pedal was felling a little spongy. It has new discs and pads front and rear.

I replaced with DOT4 and all was good so I thought. Driving in Spain in very hot conditions I noticed that the pedal was getting more spongy to the point that although it would harden with several pumps, with pressure still applied, you could feel the pedal sinking slowly. The car still stopped but it was a little worrying. I got hold of some more dot 4 and clear plastic tube and went through the procedure again and replaced all the fluid on the assumption it was bad fluid with a low boiling point or something. It was better but not much.

Drove home ok albeit still spongy with a slowly sinking pedal. I have looked at RAVE an searched on here and have noticed a couple of things I may have done wrong - I filled the resevoir well above max with new fluid (RAVE makes a point about not doing this) and I did not have the clear tube in new clean fluid in the jar.

Would wither of these have caused an issue (not sure how). Also, I did this with the engine (and ignition off). RAVE dpesnt mention this but would having the engine on make any difference at all?

Thanks (in hope)!

I'm not sure but to bleed the air out of a d2 u have to do it in a certain order !!

Also wen me and my dad did his he cracked bleed niple then i pushed brake down until air out then he closed it as fluid came out !! !!

That's what we did ?? And it worked !!

Hope that helps

Anthony !

Hi, do it with engine running, use the pipe dipped in liquid and respect the sequence.... or find somebody with hawkeye/nanocom to do it properly

you dont need engine running do with ignition off first if doesnt do it ,try with ignition on be careful soon get through some oil, doesnt really matter what order done in

IMO it works better vacuum assisted ... and the sequence is important cos of the ABS modulator involved

ive done a good few never had any complications ,not like classic rr much simpler ,when replacing block just bled 2 x pipes to it then 4x out then wheels
