Bought my first freelander

Hiya.

hope you didnt mind but picked up a 2002 3 door commercial freelander TD4, auto, 1 year mot,taxed till november 2010 160,000 miles on the clock today, could not believe after having series 3's of how nice they drive, considerably quieter.

i noticed the windscreen had a crack, the rear spare tire was nearly bald, it has a full land rover service history, wished to ask an honest question i paid him £2,000, do you think i paid over the odds.

done basic checks like the engine filler cap for water, dip stick, underneath, under carpets, test drove it for about 30 mins, took my hands off the wheel to see if the breaks were ok, put the steering onto full lock to see if there were any noises.

would anyone be so kind that as the milage is on the high side what i should do , replace or check please.

im going to jet wash all underneath, check the air filter, and pollen filter inside.

We've got a 2002 TD4 manual on 100,000miles so slowly catching yours up.

Your comprehensive insurance will cover the windscreen and the tyre is easily sorted.
Makd sure the most worn tyres are on the front.
Check the VCU by doing the tippex test.
Check the transmission to see of there are any worn bearings/mounts.
Check the crankcase breather filter to make sure it is not blocked and no pressure building up inside engine. Oil coming from dipstick hole is a give away of severe pressure.
Check HDC works.
Check all windows and tailgate work.
Have a well deserved cuppa and enjoy your car.

tbh, sounds a fair price.

as blippie said, crankcase breather filter is a must check/replace. probably also worth taking the egr valve off and giving it a good clean out or buying and fitting a bypass. Mine usually starts acumulating crap every 15k or so, so unless yours has been cleaned it's well worth doing.

if you search this forum for rave cd, you'll find a link to a site where you can download a whole manual, which is like haynes but on cd, well worth having.

thanks guys really appreciate all your help, i did try and download a parts cd from micro cd, but simply could not make it work, drove me nuts and it also cost me £10.00.

if there are any other parts cd's out there would be really grateful, thanks so much for the download link

as if i did had some horrible wheels wouldnt fancy getting hung and drawn and my freelander being called a gaylander.

Welcome, I also have a td4 commercial, 2004 vintage though so the facelift front back etc.

Now on almost 90k, bought it at 12k in 2008 and been trouble free since.

Have thought about changing it (and the Skoda) but the only car that would do me is the Disco 3.... so waiting till I have some more funds!

I think the key to keeping it going well is good servicing at a land rover specialist, wont be cheap (cheaper than LR dealer though) but well worth it.

thanks, i went for a short drive today, took my lab she had a lovely run through the woods and cooled off in the river, it was heaven that when i came back to the car it was like a greenhouse, sat there put the air con on , what a luxury

have never had ac before, plus on the way home saw people in the queue sweating there wat nots off,

i still cannot belive i actually own one now, defently feel like a big kid, my 18 year old son wants me to take him off road, nothing severe just a dirt track or field.

i will also have to find out where i can go and cannot go, as i wish to be a very responsable driver and not pee anyone off.

have been searching locallly but havent found anything as of yet.
