ok now both my 200tdis are suffering with the same issue,

Both experienced a sudden drop in power and are stuck to around 60-70 mph TOPS, and a gradient on the horizon puts a look of despair on my face.

Previous to this, my 3dr was quite happy to zip up to 90+ mph.

Ive changed lift pumps, am getting full pressue on the turbo, but it doesnt seem to be dumping more fuel in. There is a distinct lack of smoke from the pair of em.

As I run both of them on the same "altenative" fuel sources im thinking thats the common link. Fuel lines a bit blocked up with crud perhaps? There does seem to be a good squirt coming out of the lift pump though. Fuel filters have been changed with no benefits.

Both run really smooth, but have no grunt at all.

Any thoughts? I am at a loss. The suddeness of the change doesnt make me think of wear etc

have you tried flushing out the veg oil and running some injector cleaner and REAL diesel through them.

id also remove my injectors 1 x 1 and stick them in a clear bottle and get the engine running - see what the spray looks like.

ive got an injector pop tester and tested the ones on my csw, spray pattern seems reasonable. Makes no difference between veg and diesel with regards to the running of them.

Was thinking maybe running on the veg has cleaned out the tank and some gunk is blocking the lines? but then they run so well and when the fuel line is left off it squirts a good squirt of fuel out.

If theyve both been run on the same fuel then its a fair bet that its fuel related

Was it used oil ? if so do you have any of that batch left to check for excess water or other nasties ?

Are you running the same fuel in any other vehicles ?

Yeah i run it in the l200 and p38 and mazda bongo. Bongo and L200 have been on it for ages and love it!
CSW went 6 months ago, and the new 110 went like it a month ago.

Some fuel pumps have a fine gauze on the inlet (finer than the mesh in a stanard fuel filter) it mite be worth looking into wheather or not the 200 pumps have them as it may be blocked

A friends diesel ranger did what your describing after he ran it out of diesel and a filter change made no difference but when we looked the gauze in the pump was choked with realy fine particles

Was a real pig to get it out if i remember right but im sure a fuel injection specialist will know better than me ,there may be a special tool to get them out

try and isolate the issue. pull the fuel pipe from the pump and stick another bit of pipe on it that leads to a fresh jerry can of fuel on your passengers floor (private land ofc)

if it still doesn't work then the tank/hoses are probably fine and it's further up and try some derv in the jerry can just incase

Good idea. I'll give that a go.

Chris I think that gauze is on the lift pump? Just replaced that. Or is there one on the inj' pump too?

i think last time i looked at a 300 inj pump diagram it had one in. prolly same on 200

There should be one in the inj pump too ,there will also be gauze in the tank pick up (do fenders have the fuel sedimenter infront of tank same as disco 1s ?) although you said your happy with the amount of fuel getting to the lift pump

I will have a looksee. Got a diagram as to where it is lads?

Thinking about that filter methodically though....

If it were the filter, then it would have clogged completely long ago, ive done 10,000 miles in my csw since the problem started. On the same fuel. Plus there is a pre filter and the fuel filter to go through which are much finer than any gauze in the injection pump one.

Unless the velocity of the fuel is self scouring a way through the filter but this seems unlikely.

I will have a looksee but I have me doubts.

Timing wise :- if the timing were out it should still be chucking the fuel in but then probably not burning it properly thus should be shed loads of smoke? but theres none.

So something to do with the boost valve on the injection pump perhaps? Fuel pin seems easy enough to move.

I will try traxs suggestion of isolating the fuel system from the tank to the pump and see what happens.

Bloody landrovers ;)

Take it you have checked air filter and airways, and set the tappets?
Fuel pump timing a little bit out probably wouldn't cause billowing smoke, but might affect performance. Pump drive trains wear over time.
Just thinking to eliminate all other possible causes.
I don't know Bosch pumps, but CAV do have a little filter gauze as they describe ^^^^^^^^^^^^. And they do block up!

ive checked air filter but not taken off all the air pipework yet, maybe i should.

All covered in gunky ****e though.. urghh...

wheres this filter then lads?
