Hi all
My Discovery 300tdi was tricky to start this morning, after draining the battery, I jump started and whoosh it was away.
I let it idle for a bit and noticed drips from under engine bay...located drips to under injection pump.
It's not from the 4 injector connectors, or fuel in/out...
Someone has suggested seals?
If so, would a good mechanic be able to change these if they had instructions?

Usually if the injection pump leaks it comes from the spindle that is moved by the accelerator cable - do a search as its been covered a few times ;)

Its an easy diy fix if you can source the correct parts from a diesel pump spares place :)

As Daz says, seal on spindle. Easy enough to do in situ.
Other common-ish place is the main O ring that seal rotor head to pump body.
Where the injector lines enter the pump body you will see they screw into a 5" square 'plate' for want of a better discription. This is about 1.5" thick and is joined to the pump body.
Have a look underneath at the lowest point of it for fuel seepage. This is just about possible to do in situ but you have to have a really good idea whats what as it can go horribly wrong if parts move/fall out.
It only takes 10 mins to replace O ring but more than likely pump off job if it is.:(

Did my throttle spindle bush and o ring a couple of weeks ago, got the kit from a guy on EBay, came with instructions. Not too difficult, just make sure you mark or photograph the position of the throttle pivot on the shaft before you take it apart, otherwise you will need to adjust the position to get a good tickover.

Changed the drive end seal on mine,be careful if you have this as fuel enters cambelt area and my belt then snapped.
Fairly easy to change the seal, but you have to remove pump and lock shaft to take the drive end pulley off and it sits on a taper-no woodruff key-more info if you need it

Ok, do you have the name of the ebay chap?

Try item number 160976125821

Allmakes-Diesel-Specialist

That is the current listing for the one I got. He will give you a link to the instructions on the web, very helpful.

Hope that helps.

I had the same issue which I've been putting off for a while, but since the cold weather it's become worse. I decided to buy a complete kit which was a good idea as the throttle shaft itself was worn shiny on the inside. It might have been OK to re-use but since the pump was apart I changed the shaft and bush at the same time.
All the parts are available as a kit here:

Make sure your pump number is the same as listed as there are different shafts and bushes for each type. The whole job took about 3 hours and is a bit fiddly but not impossible.
