Bmw M51 engine

Hi guys, I am new to this,I know it’s not a landrover, but shares the same engine as the P38, I can’t find much information on it. I have a E36 325td, it has been stood for 12 years when I bought it, the pump had gone in the tank, I have replaced this, emptied the tank and cleaned it out also the fuel lines and filter changed. So I got it started now and running, I have had to unplug coolant temp sensor and it will start, if I plug it back in it cuts the engine out, I have replaced the sensor with a new one and it’s still the same, it will idle around a 1100rpm but won’t rev at all. I have had the pump off today to remove the solenoid cleans the gauze and replaced the O rings and still no different it won’t rev what so ever, has anyone got any ideas, thanks Ian
