on slow speed fed through resistor on fast resistor bi-passed but if you are having to hold it down would suspect contacts or connections on switch

The resistors in the heater box and riveted in , but you can get to the crude switch by taking your clocks out and getting at them that way ( they normally get coverd in fluff and ****e ) .
