Just got the sump off to find it was previously cleaned with a disc cutter or very course sanding disc looks like it's bin draged down the road lots of distortion on the forward edge and 3 deep guoges in the timing case can see where they have forced a screw driver in and leverd hard then in a bit further leverd then move over a bit and repeat.no wonder it leaked oil everywhere...Oh i hate monkeys!!!.

Basically clean both surfaces with degreaser or brake cleaner then run a good fat bead around itAhhhh
thought it was some process to re-cut face by elbow grease

Takes me back a few years
used to make our own gaskets, for steam pipe connections, with a ball pane hammer, sheet gasket and the flange to be joined, and then add a load of gunky compound - to ensure it sealed
