hi guys i have taken the abs unit off and have now repaired it.i have fitted it back on but did i bleed the system right as the brakes dont seem very sharpe. i started at n/s rear then o/s rear then n/s front then o/s front . went round twice untill all surplus bubbles were out. but stll feel a bit soft the pedal . do you think i got to wait for system to settle a bit after disturbing it or is there something i have not done.

just bled mine according to haynes you bleed n/s front, o/s front, n/s rear, o/s rear.if you remove abs unit take to dealer to bleed.
i did my shuttle valve wiring mod yesterday but left abs pump in place.

Bleed furthest away first, on Disco 2 it will be RH side rear if RH drive as the ABS unit is on the left & RHR is the longest brake pipe, So do offside rear, nearside rear, offside front then nearside front. You dont need testbook either, you can bleed the ABS unit at the outlet pipes.

best to do both front and rear on one side first then the other ,disco 2 dual system runs opposite corners ,that way both sides of dual master cylinder are pumping fluid

Correct me if I am wrong but are Discovery's and Defenders fitted with a valve to protect the rear brakes.
So if fluid is lost on the rear brakes the valve closes to keep brakes working on the front.

I have come across this on both my D1 and a Defender Td5.

i thought we were talking about d2 with abs earlier non abs discos are as you said dual systems were front and back with ,d2 abs dual system is diagonal,so is best to bleed one side ofsystem the the other

This is what Rave states.

WARNING: If any components upstream of brake
modulator, including the modulator itself are
replaced, the brake system must be bled using
the procedure on TestBook/T4, to ensure that all
air is expelled from the new component(s).

Also the bleeding of calipers on a D2 is front to rear (also stated in Rave) unlike the D1 rear to front.

its not that critical ,i often replace master cylinders and bleed system through ,but bleeding both fronts or one side rear and front has same effect bleeding both sides before doing one completely

as far as i know you have to open the valves with the scanner (we have the snapon solus) otherwise the abs light keeps coming on due to the shuttles sticking
