Had my VCU changed this morning by Austin from Bell Engineering. Removed the Beaumont Recon which had no drive through it and replaced it with one of his recons. Car feels totaly different. No vibrations and 4 wheel drive. It feels alot safer in these conditions too. Only took 30 mins to do the job.

Highly recommended.

I've emailed Beaumonts with a link to this thread and others made by you. As all your posts appear to be aimed solely at discrediting Beaumonts and I think it's only fair that they have thw opportunity to reply to your allegations.

Wouldn't be the first time a company has created a user account to try and discredit the opposition. :D

I totally agree wiff red on this wun ,We shuld only discredit company's if it is proved that they are not trying to rectify a fault or help a customer so lets not be to hasty on this wun [always two sides to a story] could have had a bad batch of VCU'S , so come on BEAUMONT'S as red say's have your say :):)
 
Bell Engineering recon VCU fitted 2 weeks ago proves itself in the 30cm snow we have here in Holmfirth this week. 4WD works exactly as it should and got me out and up some very snowy icy slippery hills. Even managed to provoke the TC lamp to come on too. I drive in deep snow a bit old school, i.e min revs so as not to cause wheel spin if possible.
Having had a S3 and a Disco 300TDi, I have to say the Freelander inspired lots of confidence and respect for it's ability this last week.

Nice one jobsworth. Im glad you did that. He will know who i am as i have been emailing him and also called him. The guy is ignorant and admitted that the units he is selling are not what they should be.

(A quote from an email they sent me) "Our reconditioned viscouses for the Freelander have been made looser than the original type deliberately to elliminate the problems caused to the transfer box. However the downside of this is that some of the "oomph" is lost so making these unsuitable for anyone wanting to, for example, tow a caravan out of a muddy field. The upside is that your transfer box should not suffer the problems that most do with the original type"

Having spent over a £1000 on my car this year on drive train components so i can have 4x4 only to find that it still doesn't work due to someone selling something that doesnt do what it says. I might aswell not bothered and just kept it mondo. You only get one chance with me im afraid.

I have also been in contact with Trading Standards.

And to set the record straight Mr suspicious. I am in no way connected with any VCu refurbishment company. I am just a customer who has had a good service and piece of mind.

I hope they do reply. An explanation why they think people want to spend money on something that doesnt work would be great to see.

Thanks for the post! I can clarify the 2001yth is nothing to do with Bell Engineering, just a satisfied customer. I have plenty of the Beaumont VCU's in the scrap pile if anyone would likle to see how they "operate", put it this way, i struggled to undo the the bolt holding the propshaft onto the vcu as the VCU just kept spinning round :doh:
 
It occurred to me that anyone buying a freelander believing it to be a 4x4 and subsequently finding that it's been fitted with a reconditioned VCU or IRD that intentionally doesn't transmit drive to the rear would be very ****ed off. Buyer beware!

I have spent alot of money this year on my drive train,ird,rear diff, cv joints. I just wanted to get my car back running as it should do, with no vibrations, rattles, whines and most of all 4x4. Why would i want a vcu that doesnt give drive to the rear? I might as well have just kept it Mondo.

I just want it to snow again now. :)

Ermm as far as I'm aware the definition of a jobsworth is "someone who does a job exactly to the letter and with no deviation form his stated job description and is a shortened term of the phrase "more than my jobs worth"

As I'm not an employee of LZ. I'd love to know how you arrived at the above statement?? :rolleyes:

I've never heard of Beaumonts so have now't to say about them.

I was foolish enough to buy (unwittingly) a Freelander with a seized VCU last year and after a few months the IRD was knackered.
My local garage sourced a reconditioned VCU and IRD from Bell Engineering and it has been fine. It's been fitted for about 8 months now.
No more tightness on full lock, which by the way, I was led to believe was normal by some posters on here.

In the recent snow, I was the only one to get off our street without spending hours digging the car out.
My Freelander is just brilliant in the snow..

I was close to burning it when the IRD was knackered, but so pleased with it now.
Oh....and it went through the MOT last week with no problem.
Well chuffed.

Did they email you back in reply to my Allegations? I would be really interested to hear what they have said. Im sure my posts on several Forums will not be a surprise to him as i told him that was exactly what i was going to do.
 
I'le tell you why he hasn't mailed back. Because he knows the VCU's he is selling are **** and in no way give drive to the rear wheels. He just did not understand my frustrations when i told him how much money i had spent (well over £1000) getting my car back to 4x4 only to be sold a VCU that still meant front wheel drive only. "Thats how we build them" he said.

WELL DONT ****ING BUILD THEM THEN IF YOU CANT DO IT PROPERLY!

**** him. He is no better than That IRd specialist guy who has been ripping people off.
 
dint the irdspecialist start paying some peeps money back ?

it seemed to me (as an outsider) that irdspecialist was just a bad businessman, who ended up with immense cash flow problems rather than someone who deliberately set out to defraud.

as to redhands point, it was and is valid. You have posted on the forum negative comments about beaumonts. for those comments to be regarded as valid, beaumonts must have the opportunity to defend themselves and explain their actions.

in this case, they have declined to do so, so your comments can be regarded as valid.
 
not sure how many he paid back - cud be a smokescreen?

2001b aint the only guy to mention poor product from Beaumont either.

mind yu - there was a spate of poor quality from Ashcrofts as well .....
