I have a Defender 110 Td5 County station wagon and would like to have a bed in the back, either permanently fitted but collapsible, or in some other way. Have thought of aluminium (have a wooden, three-section folding board at present: terribly heavy and unwieldy, and needs replacing).

Could anyone suggest a source of photos/diagrams/instructions for the kind of thing I want?

have you tried one of the armys z-beds?

its a collapsable z-frame that you put a canvas sheet onto, it has eylets that clip into the z-frame that pull it tight when you lay on it. then folds up to a nice package.
my local army surplus had one for a tenner.
It should fit between the wheel arches - tho you may need to chop a bit off your length.

just an idea mind.

how about one of these?

you know why,

"you love that bleedin' landy more than me, you've got a choice its me or the landy":(

no competition really, she would be off to her mothers apart from you'd have to drive her in your new bedroom!:D

Airbeds - sounds like cheap cartoon ACME airbags. just before you have an accident get out and strap them to yourt forehead. Thats health and safety direct from Brussels

thats true , but if you leave the motor running the exhaust will keep you warm and toasty all night.

Slob is correct, the cheapest and easiest alternative is the air bed, simple is always the best option. Kind regards...Ron

i got a hard top. i put 2 15mm mdf boards across the arches which covers whole rear section so just looks like flat floor. covered it in some old carpet, camping mat and sleeping bag, sweet as.

sleep underneath it for safety and security purposes.

BAD PLAN.

Loadsa guys, mostly soldiers, got squished over the years sleeping under vehicles. They went to sleep, vehicle quietly sank into the ground .....

ZZzzzzzz............... long sleep ...............
