Hi All,

For some time now, I have had a bearing noise on the freebie.

After having IRD and rear diff rebuilt, much of the noise diapeared, but there is still a noise on the rear right side.

3 of the 4 wheel bearings have been change (ironically apart from that one) and the rear brakes have been overhauled.

The other thing that I have noticed is a squeal from that side on dry car parks when turning left only and on round abouts.

Discounting the wheel bearing, would a shot CV joint cause the noise(s)? Is there anything else that might?

Thanks

Thank for your comments

The VCU was checked out when the IRD / Diff was rebuilt. It also had new VCU bearing. The only bearing that wasn't change was that side.

Is there a simple way to check the CVs without taking the half shaft off the car?

Thanks

Rear prop UJ's have always been available, where it meets the diff. Mine only squeeled turning right dropping on a slight incline onto my lane. Took in off and it was seized on two of the bearings.

Check that the drive shaft seals aren't wearing ...l
L if they are then look at the carrier bearings.... Although these normally start to,give,a knock from the rear before they start squealing

I had my VCU changed a few months ago for an OEM spare then had IRD & rear diff overhauled at the same place you had yours done near Doncaster, it was quite a bit noisier when I picked it up but didn't have time to do anything about it as we were setting off for the Pyrenees 2 days later, left rear wheel bearing failed near Toulouse, limped to Andorra & got it changed but it cost me 3 days of offroading in the mountains so I was less than amused !!. The common denominator is the place we got the work done, I was wonderring about the way they are seperating the drive shafts from the diff, could that be damaging the bearings ?. All four bearings were replaced about 8,000 miles ago so they weren't old & tired.
