Hi guys....

I have a 97 Auto DSE p38. I'll try and be as short as I can whilst providing as much info as possible.

This is the second time this has happened, and both times I don't really know how IT or I fixed it... but I want to find out what the fault is so I don't get stuck or get the wife stuck somewhere.

1) Stopped at a supermarket, parked up, got out and locked with fob. (Dogs left in boot as normal, never an issue).

2) Returned to car, key fob wont open car and no sign of activation. Key in Driver lock would only open driver door and boot (boot unlocking was strange), key won't then start car, Engine Disabled message and press remote or enter EK code on dash;

3) I didn't have EK code on me so tried the fob again (in hope) - nothing.

4) Got out, locked door and tried again; same thing. This time I checked that locking with key was activating the lock on the boot, which It did, bit nothing else.

5) Got impatient and started locking and unlocking car with key (each time the car double beeped. This would happen when opening and closing every door except the rear passenger one(no idea if that has any significance).

6)After about 3 or 4 attempts of constantly unlocking and locking the car with key (no idea what I was hopping to achieve)... the dash beeped and said Lockout (wife waving at me frantically at this point).

6) After a sinking feeling, I put the key in the ignition and the car started. I wasn't expecting that at all. Since then things have been (cross fingers... fine). The car has been shut down twice since (locked with fob) and has opened on request. Once almost instantly after the lock, the other about 2hrs after... so for now things are fixed.

My worry is that this will happen again with my pregnant wife and strand here somewhere.

These things can't fix themselves can they?

I have done a full search on this forum and read through 6 pages of these faults. All have a common issue (key fob not working) but NONE show it fixing itself, and only about 2 have any actual feedback as to the actual fix that worked. The ones that do are for Petrol V8's which end up with Sync boxes - but this is a dirty lovely Derv 2.5.

Any ideas or help?

Learn how to use the eka code. It's easy and got me out of trouble in a number of occasions. Your wife should learn this too, this way your new baby will come out ready for the twisted ways of the range rover.

If you play with the driver door lock in a random way like you seem to be doing, the BECM assumes you are trying the eka code as a thive would, hence the lockout message. Depending on market and year it may take a while for the car to let you try the eka again.

I played with it - got the message, but the Car actually let me start her with that message... which is the other way around as it should be.

Dodgy door lock

Data... how can these be checked? I get no message on the dash telling me it thinks its open or closed when the real situation is different.

I read a lot of people saying strip and clean... but that is connected to dash messages saying that the doors open when its closed.

that's me spending some time reading about it on Rave then.... I just can't understand why the lockout message actually released the car and let me start it. I was expecting it to lock me out for a period of time.

maybe this is the answer...today I pulled up to fill up got back in and could not get the old bucket started.....after being pushed out of the way by a handy group of east European car washers....got to keep the pumps clear...hour on phone to mrs old goat who was searching on here for me.... nothing for it but to call aa .....forty mins later the very nice man came and fair play in 10 minutes diagnosed brocken solder joint on battery holder on fob...another 10 mins and on my way..the first time they have ever fixed anything for me. while waiting for the paperwork he told me that 10 years ago he had a fly fishing vice in his (then) rac van but hasn't used his soldering iron since the last landrover he met imobilised ,when I get a mo I will post picture,but as said fair play to the very nice man...:clap2:

Tescto's garages !!!!!!!
Tesco's superstores !!!!!!
etc etc ...this has all been well covered ..
fault = telephone masts + computer traffic + spurious radio signals all affecting 433mhz
remedy = renew R.F.RECEIVER,,
check yours if it has " wich it will according to year of vech " a blue round sticker on it
replace with .part no YWY500170= GREEN ROUND STICKER average cost £180-£280 ????????? I know **** in it ,all that for a £12.00 part when new , but that' land rover you !!!!!!
there is ive read ,cheaper ways round it but ?????????????

so there you have it 99.5 % of these lock-outs, -engine immobilised--eka code req ,etc etc are caused by OLD WORN OUT R.F. RECEIVERS !!!!!!!! TRUST ME I KNOW ,,,,, REGARDS MOZZ

1) Get a bit of paper... write down the EK code on to it, open your ashtray, pull the tray out, drop the piece of paper into the ashtray, replace the cover, now you will always have your EK code with you in the car
2) dont have baby's.....
