Hi everyone. We’ve had our Y plate Defender 90 County TD5 for around 10 happy years and it seems that keyfob batteries have decided to give up the ghost at last. Yes I know we should have changed them but we are where we are sadly. Lesson learned. To make matters worse the engine would appear to have already been immobilised as the alarm was set off during the bad weather a few weeks ago and we haven’t used it since. We can get into the vehicle but it doesn’t start of course.

I have two new replacement batteries and from some online searching I have seen conflicting advice as to how and where I should replace the batteries and that I might need to re-sync the fobs and I could really do with some wise words from existing users such as those of you on this forum.

All and any advice would be appreciated, so in advance, thank you.

I do not have a td5 fender , but the manual says this. from what I could see.

Thanks for that, really useful. We’ve not got a manual. As we seem to already be immobilised I’m not hopeful of this working but will give it a go.

Well, as it says, you will need the EKA code, if you download the RAVE file it will include the owners manual.
Then you will need your EKA code, which if you have not got, you will need to either call one of the online places or visit your local dealer.

Cheers

Fantastic thanks and we are now all sorted.
If it’s useful for anyone else reading this I can tell you what we did.

Situation
Defender 90 County Y Reg.
Immobilised with red warning light flashing furiously in speedo.
No central locking on this model.
Both Lucas 17TN keyfobs with dead batteries.

Solution
Away from the vehicle, replaced the batteries in the fobs with new ones.
Then separately took one fob and key to the landy.
Turned the ignition to position II. Then to position 0. Removed the key.
Pressed the unlock button on the fob in quick succession about 4 or 5 times and both indicators flashed a couple of times. Waited a few seconds.
Pressed unlock once more.

Landy was now not immobilised.
Turned the key, started ok.
Tried to lock and all worked ok.
Unlocked as well. Phew.
Repeated same process for second key. All ok.

Hope this may help others.
