Bad starting

Any ideas anyone when my 300 tdi defender gets below half tank on fuel it takes a while to fire up, (warmed up an cold) and seems short on fuel yet over half tank its fine, but have a small leak coming from top of tank, cheers.

dont know if its same as discos but pick up pipe in tank could be split/small hole. that would do it.
