Now I have my 1998 300tdi Defender all fixed, back on the road and running like a dream I want to smarten it up and restore all my exterior trim back to black. So after scrolling through pages on the web I came up with three products 1) Forever black, 2) Wurth Plastic Dye or 3) C4 by GTechniq. Has anyone used these nefore and have opnions on them? Forever Black seems the cheapest at around £17 and Wurth seems to give more for your money (75ml) but it costs £30 + and C4 by GTechniq about the same, but only 15ml! Obviously I want the one which lasts the longest. TIA

I found on my Disco that the best finish and longest lasting, though arguably hardest way to do it on the plastics is to use a heat gun or hot hairdryer which effectively softens the outer layers, and just makes them look 'right'. If you do go this way, try it first on an odd bit, there's a broadish line between getting it bang on and melting, but it does become easier as you do it .. heat and move, heat and move ... ;)

OTOH, on the defender where the rear crossmember and bumper are black I've found the best way to keep them looking good and to keep rust away is a spray with oil .. 3-in-1 seems good, WD 40 is OK, and even old engine oil in a spray can on the underside and chassis works well .. I don't bother with the plastics .. ;)

Peanut butter for the plastics, rub on rub off.... Sounds daft but it's been brought up a few times on jds Facebook...

Try it! Regarding metal I've no idea to be honest.

Ask Ed on Wheeler Dealers he seems to return an interior upholstery every week! Mike might even get you a new set up for diddly.
