Hello,
Hopefully about to buy my 1st Landrover ever :D Very very exicting

What MPG can i expect to get from it compared to my 1994 Volvo 850 5 cylinder 2ltr which averages about 20mpg no matter what i clean in the engine?

The car is a 1995 3947cc Petrol range rover vogue SE automatic WITH an LPG conversion!!! Its beautiful. Would like MPG with + without LPG if thats poss.

Also, Never had LPG before - what sort of range can i expect from it? My commute is 80miles total but i rarely do the full 80 as we car share with 4 other who enjoy driving through traffic more than me but occiasonally i will have to do it. Will i get 400ish miles out of a tank ?

I agree, assuming you drive sensibly, but don`t be surprised if you get a bit less. MPG on LPG should be about the same if its properly set up - don`t get confused by people who quote MPG equivalent, all they are doing is converting the cost differential between unleaded and LPG into MPG as if on unleaded.

17 gallons per mile sounds excessive even by septic standards..i'd have to stop to fill up 25 times on my 20 mile drive to work!
Nothing is excessive by septic standards. That's the standard.

And yesterday I realized that we can't have a class war here in the States because we don't have any. :D

I love how forums can start with simple questions and they go off on a tangent haha - its great when youve been there from the start but a pain when you search though old forums trying to find answers haha

Anyway - any more averages? Or rough ranges ?

On my 4.2 without LPG I've been getting an average 7-8mpg around London, having dropped as low as 4! :( Motorway driving has on occasion gifted me with 12-14mpg which is useful when driving across Europe.

The car is currently having the Lambda sensors changed (seems there was a backlog of errors registered from before I bought her 2 years ago showing them as failed).

I'm hoping those and a few other engine faults sorted should pull me up to 17-18 extra urban and maybe even 22-23mph on the motorways.

Bare in mind that mine is a race-specced engine, but I would expect the 3.9 to be of similar numbers. But the heaviness of your right foot will have dramatic consequences on your MPG.

Good luck with her, nice to see some photos...

You're looking at about 16-19 mpg on petrol, maybe 14-16 on gas unless you use motorways when you might get up to 23-24 on petrol. If your classic is a single point system it won't get much, if any better on m'ways cos of the way they work. To work out what you're getting as an unleaded equivalent multiply your real mpg by 1.92. How big is the lpg tank? Remember-20 litres has to be taken off the capacity because you can't run an lpg tank dry, they always keep that much in them even when your engine splutters and stops if you don't switch it over quick enough. I know that sounds a pain, but my P38 is on lpg and my 3.9 before it was as well and I think it's the dogs dangly bits, a Rangy is just too thirsty without it. I ran a 3.5 for 200,000 miles in the 1990's and spent over £40,000 just on petrol, ahem! They are great vehicles, do it and you'll have much more street cred than any V**** (I'm a Biker too) and mountains more fun, good luck

My 3.9 did about 12mpg average on gas.

never got any where near 20 even on a long steady (55mph) cruise. think it ran quieter at 80mph, couldn't hear the engine at that.

4.6 are sposed to be more economical around 20+ I've heard.

Expect an average figure of between 12 and 14mpg. Short hops and around town can drop to between 8 and 10mpg, if you have a very heavy right foot you might get it down to 6mpg. A good motor on a long motorway run might give low 20's. I've had 22-23ish out of mine fully laden and that's on mud tyres etc.

i used to getb14-16 on the 3.9 disco auto...

dont run a crappy buick engine rangie now..just to slow and thirsty lol...swap the engine out for something decent..
