I was looking on ebay earlier on today. One of the suggested items that came up was an auto gearbox for a late 80s Japanese 4x4 for only 30 quid. This was an old type with not a lot in the way of electrical controls.

That got me wondering, has anyone here istalled any kind of Automatic transmission into a series? Obviously it would be a major project likely to run into a lot of problems, but may be possible if you had the time on your hands.

It's done with Defenders. I've never come across it on a series landy. All things are possible. I doubt a 2.25 series engine would be suitable, probably have to have consider a Japanese engine or a bigger Perkins. I think you'd lose a lot of functionality like low ratio and four wheel drive.

I would think an auto from a 200 tdi would fit the bell housing but it would have a permanent 4x4 transfer box and would have the long disco style bell housing so would be easier in a lwb series

As far as the 2.25 having the power i suspect you would struggle
