has anybody done this convertion ,is there any awkward bits
lost any faith i had with auto boxes , had mine rebuilt by a so called good gearbox man and it had to go back cos th reverce pack burnt out after two weeks , been running it 18months now and its slow to select reverce when at running temp (i know , should have gone to ashcrofts )You will need to replace flex plate with flywheel and fit a spigot bush that suits the manual box you are going to use.
Of course you will also need a clutch too
R380 is a better box than an LT77.
Why the swap?
are ash crofts the bestist and cheaperest?Question crops up a lot, and the usual advice is that for the value of old Classics; its not worth the doing; may as well flog it on and go find a manual if that's what you want.
Auto's do work well, though, and if the rest of the motor is worth keeping, then dont loose faith; you've already nailed the problem.... go sort it, you even offered the solution..... go to Ashcrofts!
just spoke to them.. they'll rebuild my box for £895... think i'll give em a missTry the automatic gearbox company in Derby
almost a total rebuild apart from panels. that also includes a new 4.6 from rpiQuestion crops up a lot, and the usual advice is that for the value of old Classics; its not worth the doing; may as well flog it on and go find a manual if that's what you want.

TBH that's not a bad price for reconning an auto, and they have an very good reputation....just spoke to them.. they'll rebuild my box for £895... think i'll give em a miss
a recon off the shelf comes in at £600 so its seem a bit over the top to me, seen this on ashcrofts.TBH that's not a bad price for reconning an auto, and they have an very good reputation....
Doesn't make it any more affordable, though when you can buy another disco or Rangie for that kind of money..... but it is VFM.
Did you ask about thier DIY rebuild kits?
Their about half the price, and OK you do the work, to your own level of competence, but can make it more do-able, and they will give advice.
drained the oil yesterday, it was as black as coal and had loads of clutch bits and metal filings in it had to order new box from ashcrofts, they advised against std hp22 due to it having the rpi 4.6 in it so we have gone for a stage two hp24 that they say is bullit proof (almost), hope so its got to get us and the caravan to austria next weekQuestion crops up a lot, and the usual advice is that for the value of old Classics; its not worth the doing; may as well flog it on and go find a manual if that's what you want.
