I have an auto Rangerover 3.9 efi classic with a faulty gearbox.

I also have access to a R380 box cheap.

What would be involved in changing it to suit the manual if i was to do it myself and how much would i look to pay if i was to give it to a garage to do.

On another hand if this isnt viable what price should i look to pay for someone to change the gearbox auto for auto. Cheers

You would have to have a clutch added, torque converter removed, all clutch pipes and cylinders and have pedals changed the list would go on, if you were to do it as a project yourself its more viable than paying a garage to do it, they would charge more than the value of the car IMHO

I am doing the same to my RRC, I have a LT77 box to go in which I got from a 1991 disco. The box cost £150, got the transfer box, bell housing, peddle box etc with it, bought a new clutch for £100, got a 2nd hand fly wheel for £75, clutch master cylinder for £17. As you have everything out you need to decide if you want to change all of thy hydraulic components. I haven't done the swap yet but am doing a full re-build so will have the floor out and do the box then. I was advised to use a LT77 V8 box as this will fit straight in. If you want to fit a R380 then I believe you will have to modify the tunnel and maybe the chassis mounts. Make sure that the box you are fitting is off a V8 not a Diesel as the gear ratio's will be wrong.

replace the autobox with like..do yourself..garage charge too much..manual conversion stupid money in garage, long winded if doing oneself..
