Auto gearbox oil cooler pipes need replacement

Hi again, another major point in getting my car to shape is replacing my AUTO GEARBOX OIL COOLER PIPES which are leaking heavily according to my last service.

Rather that having LR order and fit them, I am shopping around for the cheapest, so the question is:

Not really sure on how many pipes are there to be purchased...

Could be they are referring to the hoses that connect to the oil cooler from the steel pipes that run from the gearbox.
I had a leaking cooler and the fluid tends to travel along the hoses which makes finding the source difficult at times.
If it is definately a hose, double check the part no. and get one from Island-they will be cheaper than a Stealer, quick delivery as well.
 
Orrrrrr, depending on how much you want to spend, how brave you want to be etc you could figure out how to relocate a new gearbox cooler to infront of the bottom of the A/C condenser along with routing of the new pipework. Then you could fit the genuine under bumper fog lights.

My autobox cooler is beginning to leak and this is one project I am considering tackleing - want to go ahead, do it, figure it all out then report back here so that others like myself know exactly what to do?? :D

Just broke one of my top pipes where it goes into the Oil cooler itself ,Sourced two new pipes from Island but have stripped the threads from the pipe adopter at oil cooler.Does anyone know where i can source two new adopters .New oil cooler over £100
 
From memory, the screwed nipples on the cooler itself are made from aluminium and are welded onto the cooler during manufacture. The thread is either M20 or M22 fine pitch. Only solution I can think of,short of a new cooler, is to get a "Tailor made" adaptor with the correct male thread one end for the hose, TIG welded on to the knackered fitting. The working pressure of the cooler is not that high. May be worth a visit to your local hydraulic Hose specialist as they tend to have all sorts of make up adaptors. Have a look for Pirtek in your local phone book-some of their branches do TIG welding and are very helpful.
 
Regarding both oil & gearbox cooler replacement I would like to offer these tips from firsthand experience. The biggest problem is removal of the nuts on the hoses where they attach to to the threaded connections on the coolers, the nuts are steel and the cooler stubs are aluminium. Over time the two dissimilar metals react and this causes the nuts to bond to the softer stub threads so the aluminium threads tend to strip and remain in the nut. When I was at work, we had a good selection of Metric thread taps to clear the nuts out-this was done by cutting the steel pipe on the flexible hose in order to remove the nut and running the tap down it. A brass compression connector, to suit the steel pipe outside diameter was obtained from Economatics (Pneumatic fitting supplier)-these fittings are good for 10+bar-which is more than sufficient and cost a couple of quid each-to rejoin the cut ends. Another word of advice relates to refitting the hose from the Oil cooler on V8 models to the connection at the bottom of the front engine cover-the tapped boss wall thickness is not that great so never go overboard when tightening the connection you WILL crack the boss and that will cost you anything up to £375 for a new front cover.
Resiting the cooler would be possible if there is space behind the condenser, You could use either Copper or Bundy tube with compression fittings to make the additional runs.:beer2::beer2::beer2:

I have actually changed the oil cooler for one from the scrap yard .It is the newer round type .It appears to be more robust and does not require the pipe to cooler transition piece ,and only cost £25 and it fitted easily with no alterations .
