Up to around 52 mph if I give it some good throttle rev needle fly's up to 3500 revs and not much of it goes to the wheels get better performance if I Squeeze it in.at say 60 again Squeeze throttle in good acceleration but if it kicks down takes forever.changed the oil 3 times to get as much of the old out as possible but made no difference.oh I think I rescued it from the home of abused land rovers as the old oil was black and stank .I don't think I would live long enough to list all the botch up things I've had to repair or replace.had the same problem with my yank tank but that had adjustable bands my god did it go like fuc...i mean fast. is the box in a bad way anything I can do to maybe improve it.

You've done the obvious first with changing the fluid and I presume filter? If the old oil was so black and stinky it must've either done a million miles and or been severely overheating at some time and lost its viscosity, depending how long it's run like that you could have all sorts of damage, the internals of the torque converter coulbe worn ,the brake band and internal valves too. I reckon you need a proper transmission man to have a look
